Pointless. No matter how much I like the car there really isn't any "heritage" anymore. But hopefully this new car will make it's own.

from 1985 on they do!

IT is a big deal to some -- and while this car IS Zeta -- it still has a letter designator -- and that's why it was so important to get "F" in the 2G1F.....

(2) GM of Canada
(G) General Motors
(1) Chevrolet
(F) Vehicle line

You must always honor the past.........esp. when it comes to a hallowed name such as Camaro.......

Unfortunately the model numbers had been 'baked' once we brought this issue up -- and it was too late to change them -- that's why they are 1E*37.......

ahhhh!!!! True -- that picture is at least three years old -- was taken in "Mom" Settlemire's driveway -- The Silver Convert. is my "Z7D" Brickyard 400 --- the yellow Z06 was a company car -- and the Red/Silver T-top is Mom's.......

Guess I need to get Thor to Mars and get another pic. taken!

Fixed for now! Better?

For those who are not familiar with it, the image is called "Camaro Lesson" and the book Scott is reading is titled "Mustang Humiliation". We took that image when we were doing our 2010 Camaro Test Drive. Scott is kinda brilliant at coming up with stuff like that.

I love it! They look like two eager young students ready to get out into the real world. (I've seen the pic before, but needed to comment.)

Yes, F started as just the name for the platform, but as Scott pointed out above, it did become part of the VIN in the mid 80s. I just like the nod to the F body heritage of having the F in the VIN.

In any event, there are clearly a great number of us who like the "F" VIN. And if you don't like it, it doesn't really impact you one way or another. So we're happy, you're unaffected, and life goes on.

So for exactly 1/2 of the Camaro's existence prior to the new 2010 Camaro, there was an "F" in the VIN and for the first half of its existence there wasn't. Again I ask, is it really that big of a deal? When you consider that no Camaro ever had a "B" pillar prior to this one, I think its all small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Ummm, 4th gens have B-pillars.

Actually, 5th gens do too -- it's just at the back of the car. (Pillars are labeled in order from front to back, regardless of location.)

But for all of the 1967-2002 run, the Camaro and Firebird were on the F-body platform.

It's both a big deal and a small deal. Big deal - Camaro, Firebird & F-Body have always been one in the same.

Small deal - it's just a letter on the VIN - and it's awesome that Cheryl Pilcher worked so hard for us on such a small detail.

Honestly.. I don't like it ... Camaro doesn't need a lesson on it... It's in it's genes.
