Thank you. I suppose people making these statements wouldn't blink until it hits $6 or $7 a gallon...

You can't tell me that anybody wouldn't be at least a little annoyed that they had to shell out $4+ a gallon.. considering it was just over $1 six years ago.

LOL! Its not just gas. Food and everything that requires transportation goes up. Currently my company pays for all my milage from my home. I just got a job offer where that would not be the case. I would be back to driving at least 80 miles a day just for work. That does not take into consideration my wifes car and gas or the sitting in traffic. it will be like paying another car payment. For people who make less then I do it would be a BIG deal. You obviously dont understand that most people are strugleing to make their mortgage and car payment. Forclosures and car defaults are at an all time high.

People look at it with todays price and think it will only be x amount. They dont look at it as the price of a few years ago and that we are already paying a hundred a month more then we wanted to.

How you gonna tell a person not to buy a $30,000 car if they are worried about gas. Everybody on this board is waiting for this car to come out for years. $4 a gallon is a factor especially if you are using this as an everyday car and have to drive long distances. No everyone have the money to have this car as a weekend car or a summer car. However I will say everyone on here is a Camaro enthusiast and it will be hard for these guys to let gas prices slow them down =)

gas/oil prices suck...no matter how much $$ you make. It just cost me $700 to fill up the oil tank in my house...what am I gonna do, turn my heat off. NO. Am I gonna buy a friggin honda because gas is $3+ a gal. ummmm...NO.

Compare our gas prices to europe (and probably canada)...we're paying less...so it could be worse.

Everything is going up. That's life. $hit happens. Now, you can either complain about it and keep getting mad till you're blue in the face or just chalk it up, buy what you want to drive, and move on with life.

I'd love to bitch and moan about alot of things. I'd love to take my Camaro to Capitol Hill and drive circles around those idiots who passed CAFE untill they choke on my exhaust fumes. I'd love to pay $1.29 for a gallon of milk like I did 5 years ago. I'd love to pay $22,500 for a 3 bedroom house like my Grandparents did..... in 1954!

But guess what..... it ain't gonna happen.

Sooooo...basically what you're saying is that the engine defines the car......so how about an LS1/2/6 in a Civic?? Would you call that a Vette?? Yeeeeeah...I'm going to go ahead and say...NO. So saying that a V6 doesn't, or didn't, constitute a "real" Camaro is an incredibly ignorant statement. I think that many people would agree that there is MUCH more to the Camaro name than it's engine, not only that, but without a V6...there would be NO Camaro. Go look at the numbers...
No, what I'm saying is that the Camaro is a total package, just like you just illustrated w/ your examples. Buying a Camaro without a fairly hot engine is buying a poseur mobile, ALL you got was the looks. I also stated it was definitely not a "real" Camaro in the past to get a V6, but I was trying to imply that the 300hp level V6 is starting to get respectable now. Compared to a 400-430 hp V8 it'll still be a joke but, you'll still have a pretty quick car if that's what they end up going with. Kinda depend on how much the final product weighs I guess as to how impressive 300hp will be in it. Too many family cars have 250-270hp now...

And yeah, it's gotta sell for the car to do well, but it sure as hell isn't what I'll be driving.

Buddy, wake up. We are not talking normal rate of inflation here. Milk is more then double what it cost even 2 years ago........partially due to higher gas prices! With oil over 100 a barrel everything you use on a monthly basis is getting more expensive.

What do you mean "if"?
Anybody living in Canada has been paying $4.00/gal. for quite some time now... - and that's for regular! And remember our dollar is now at par with your greenback so the comparison is valid.
At $1.03-$1.06/liter for regular and a liter being the equivalent of .26 U.S. gallon, that works out almost bang on to about $4.00 for an American gallon. Wanna talk premium at $1.16-$1.20 liter? ... then that works out to well over $4/gal. for us.
My thinking is that I'd really dislike paying that kind of money to drive a boring car, that perhaps got a little better mileage... but paying $1.18/liter for Sunoco 94 to drive the SS is still cheap fun & entertainment for me! Gas is still a whole lot cheaper than even the worst rotgut whiskey!!
Do I put a lot of miles on the SS each year? Not all that much - maybe 10,000 mi/year - between April and December, but the other vehicles in the driveway get similar mileage to the SS - a supercharged Bonneville, STS, and 3.8L Grand Caravan that actually delivers the best mileage overall. The SS - even with 4.10 gears gets about the same mileage as the Caravan on the highway...
The whole gas thing is a non-issue for me. It is what it is... I remember going into shock when gas in my area hit 90 cents/liter... and now I only wish!!
You guys south of the border will get used to the prices and perhaps make adjustments elsewhere if necessary. Can't live my life without driving at this point.

Thats a CROCK! They dont even note the test or anything about the test! E85 has been proven on TONS of sites to be around 15-30% less that gas. On a FI car its even less since you can actually use it to its greatest potential.

We are also talking about E85 thats being produced though Corn and NOT cellulosic. Cellulosic Ethanol cost about a $1 per gallon to make and with taxes and transportation it should be about $2-2.5 at the pump.

THIS WILL nearly eliminate our oil demand.....

Another thing to note this years C6R team will be using E85 as its race fuel..... Think about it why would a race team use a fuel that was 50% less efficient?!

No kidding they have been, but EXPLAIN HOW THAT IS RELEVANT TO PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN AND BUY THEIR GAS IN THE US. I do not care what the Swiss pay to top off their smart car coffins. Are we paying $5-6 for gas? No. Yes, I know people on the west coast and in Canada have dealt with $4 gas from time to time, but I am referring to THE US NATIONAL AVERAGE, which is about $3.14 the last time I checked. I would not buy a V8 for a daily driver if I lived in Europe. Because doing so would be STUPID, unless I happened to **** $20 bills.

The Irish probably pay Harp prices for a case of Budweiser, but please explain to me why I would give a wink about that either.

That's a pretty good question, one I keep asking myself (or a form of that question anyway). I've been waiting for the next Camaro to come out ever since I first heard about it and have thought about little else. In the meantime I keep weighing the other alternatives, but have been holding out as well as I can. To me, when it does come out, not only will some of us be wondering about the current price of gas of the time, but considering even more high much higher the price will continue to get, unless some alternative form of fuel is found.

I'm with ya on that one. I live in Houston too. My drive is currently 14 miles to work and I still drive my 4 banger work.

The Camaro will have to be an every other day car if fuel gets that high.
