your making stupid statements, your in the top 6% and $4 for gas hurts you??? get a side job if it bothers you so much, you guys sound like babies, stop complaining there is nothing anyone can do about gas prices, i'm probley in the lower 6% but I just roll with it, and the extra $6 I spend a week on gas dosne't bother me, a.) theres nothing I can do about it, I still have to drive, and b.) $6 isn't going to send me to the unemployment line, if you guys think 4, 5, 6 dollars is too much for gas, don't buy a gas guzzling v8 car, go sign up for the prius message boards

 

So you are saying that you will have no complaints paying $6 for gas while being in the "lower 6%" of earners? You are either a complete moron, delusional, or drive 10 miles a week. Nobody here is complaining, its a discussion about preferences and outside factors affecting the decision to buy the V8 Camaro.

 

My offshore boat gets 1.5 mpg (twin 510 cu.in. w/carbs) ......getting 15 mpg out of a hot rod camaro to drive to the boat would be heaven!

Because the car(weight included)/transmission/rear end was designed for a V8's power.

Camry's don't seem to have a problem getting good mileage with a V6.

 

Yeah, but people made lifestyle choices based on the price of gas, and then they're stuck with them when the price changes. Its foolish to break your car loan or move to a new house just because gas went up $1. I work out of my house or take the subway, so gas could be $10/gallon for all I care, but the people who bought that cheap house 50 miles from work and the SUV for the kids doesn't see it that way.

 

12,000mi a year at 25mpg = 480 gallons.

$2 gas = $960
$3 gas = $1440
$4 gas = $1920
$5 gas = $2400

If you can't afford the $480 jump from $3 to $4 gas then you really should look at your finances again before you buy a $30,000. Heck, the car will depreciate more in that year than you will spend in gas.

 

If we are talking about something like the 4th gen, the rated numbers aren't terribly different... but the V8s are quite a bit less fuel efficient in the city, especially the automatics. In combined driving there is something like a 4mpg penalty with the Formula compared to my 3.8L.

 

Wow so even if it goes to 5 it's only an extra $80 a month. Guess I won't be changing my driving habits for a while.

 

Don't get your mullets in a bunch over gas mileage.

Pick-up trucks get the worst mileage (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byclass.htm) and they are still the top selling vehicle (http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/050239.html).

The whole gas mileage/gas price thing is a low priority for me anyways. The increase in poontang action alone justifies any added fuel costs.

If you like hippie women with hairy armpits then a Prius might be more your speed.

 

The other issue that may need to come into focus in this discussion is the speed at which so many people continue to drive...
All's I know is that I'm reading/hearing every day about how gas prices are sky high... and going even higher. People are voicing their opinions on how the oil companies are gouging and governments are continuing to slap outrageous taxes on each gallon of fuel consumed... and how maintaining a car continues to take a larger and larger chunk out of our disposable income.
I can't speak accurately for American drivers, but anybody who spends any time on Canadian highways has got to notice the crazy speeds that so many drivers are barreling down the blacktop at! Anybody traveling at less than 125 km/hr on our 400 series highways (interstate equivalent with a 100 km/hr limit - 100 = 62.5 mph) had better keep their eyes in the rearview mirror and stay in the inside lane! Driving conditions don't seem to be a factor in limiting speed either - and it seems that the bigger (and thirstier) the vehicle is, the faster the drivers wanna push them!
So my question is, if so many people are that upset with fuel prices, then why the hell are so many of them driving so fast on the highways?! It seems that the one thing people could do to counter high prices would be to drive slower, thereby stretching their fuel dollars.
This is definitely not happening in Canada - even with our $4.00+/gal fuel costs!!
I sure know what happens to my mileage when I drive at 130 km/hr instead of 110 km/hr!!

Hell yes I will. It's just going to be my fun car, I will drive my VW golf to work and back to save on gas.

 

Since 2006 when the concept was annouced I've managed to save $17,000 for my V8 camaro (hopefully a Z/28). I've been driving an old a$$ sentra just so I don't to have to pay a note, so I can save faster and be able to pay cash for my camaro. I'm in college and I got a full ride, so I don't have to worry about what u homeowners have to. The only way I wouldn't wind up getting one is if GM decided not to put it into production. $4 bucks a gallon deffinately won't be stopping me from getting my dream ride.

U guys in the top 6% have to realize that an extra 20 to 30 bucks on gas is the difference between ur fav food, goin out, or whatever. people are makin' life decisions when they pull up to the pump these days. and while buying a camaro might not be the best decision in the world for some people, if that's what a man/woman decides they want who are you to tell them different. when ur not making much money a camaro might be ur escape or what not, who knows. Just be happy they want a camaro and not a $18,000 used mustang.

 

Im not gonna worry about gas mileage . My new Camaro(if I buy one) is going in the garage next to my 94 Z28 . My Cobalt SS will remain the daily driver/work car/winter beater .
