I watched it. It's pretty stupid to compare the Camaro against the AMG 63.

 

What a stupid comparison. Why not compare the Camaro to a motorhome, then, or maybe a toaster, or a lawnmower?

Let's see: a 2+2 coupe vs. a 4 door super sedan, costing almost 2X as much. Call them both "muscle cars", ignoring the fact that neither are, in fact, that.

Throw in the predictable, stale old jokes, the standard "everything from the U.S. is so much garbage", and you have the usual Top Gear episode.

What a waste of time.

 

Outside of the context of a purchasing decision, comparing similar things is boring. Comparing different things is fun.

Anyone that thinks I'm wrong should attempt to answer the following questions:
1. Which do you like better, apples or oranges?
2. Which do you like better, oranges or oranges?

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I think there are few things more fun than racing two fast cars, and the price difference and door counts don't matter. If I were a host on Top Gear, you can be damn sure I'd be doing stuff like this as often as possible.

 

red apples or green apples would be a better comparisson. if one can afford the e63, they probably would be concidering something like the z06 over the camaro, for the price. or if their concidering the camaro, they may also look at a 370z or a mustang. but if concidering a 4 door"saloon", they should have compared the e63 with the m3 or m5, or even a audi s4. its just a stupid comparisson. a 2 door car and a 4 door car. a 35k car and a 70k car. they should have tested a SLP car or Lingenfelter. maybe they would have changed their mind.

 

I dont see why number of doors matters much. They both have a back seat, and people may not consider the Z06 at that price because it doesnt have a back seat.

Really there were not too many things that were compared other than the lap time.

IMO, you have to think of this as two different car reviews put together. This season is only 6 episodes, so they will want to test as many new cars as they can, and their budget allows.

i agree with the 2 reviews together. i dont agree that it doesnt matter if its a 4 door or 2 door comparisson. because it does matter. ive had 1 4 door car in my life. im not ready for another one. i had to have a 2 door. when comparing cars, i dont know too many people who say that they want either a 4 door or a 2 door. most people, that i know, know what they want and its either 1 or the other. yeah it has back seats, but there are many variables to buying a 2 door vs a 4 door. insurance, kids/family,back seats vs none. id rather have an suv than a 4 door car.

If you are not familiar with fifth gear, it is another british motoring show. While they are not as entertaining as Top Gear, they do pull of some great car reviews. Lets hope they like it.
