Transmission choices

Anyone hear if GM is going to have a good automatic. I'd take one over a 6-speed if it is a street/strip worthy auto. transmission. Maybe a 5 or 6 speed automatic.

Re: Transmission choices

Probably will have the 6sp auto. I hope we get a paddle shift option.

I'm on the fence on this one, as far as which I'd get. The paddle-shift 6 spd. will be tough to overlook. I think it should be offered.

it would depend on how well it works, but I would also like to see how it would alter the styling on the center console.

by 2009 a 6 speed auto should be the only auto offered. I also expect the Vettes new (for 2008) 6 speed manual to be an option

I'm expecting an A6 and a M6
6L60E and T6060 perhaps?

Is the T6060 replacing the good ole T56? What is known about it?
For that matter what is known about the A6? Other than being in the Vettes I have read nothing about it.

The A6 seems to be a good transmission. It works well in the corvettes, Denalis and Escalades. My friend has a Escalade and pulls a 6500 pound trailer with it, he says it works great. It is reassuring that the transmission can work well in the vettes and for heavy hauling.

Although it is new, it does sound like a pretty stout tranny and it can handle a good deal of power. It would be a perfect candidate for the 5th gen and an LSx motor.

Is a CVT any good? I haven't done any research as of yet. But I noticed it is available on a lot of cars my wife has looked at buying. Not sure if it would be good or benificial in any way on a sports car.

I don't know much about them, but at a glance it wouldn't seem like they would be able to handle the hp and tq that we are expecting for these cars. Even more so with the way we will probably drive them and then with mods I bet it would be begging for mercy

As of right now CVT can't handle a lot of torque.

Good point. I hadn't thought about how the console would look!
