True duals?

Anyone think the Camaro with have true dual exhaust this time? Personally I hope they do. Alot more you can do to tune exhaust if you have a mid pipe to mess with! Not to mention it would smooth out the exhaust pulses.

I think there is a good chance it will.

I think they will as well. I'm just not sure what the big hang-up is with "true duals" though.

The concept Camaro's did. I would think the platform the Camaro rides on with IRS would be very conducive to dual pipes and sperate mufflers.

That may depend on your definition of "true duals" I suppose. Is it separate pipes and converters from the manifolds/header all the way back to separate mufflers? Or is it manifolds/headers and/or converters into a single pipe breaking off into two again before the rear wheels into separate mufflers?

My take on it is separate pipes all the way from the manifolds to the exhaust tips - crossover pipe notwithstanding.

That's the way I expect it to be. We shall see.

Agreed. A well engineered and tuned exhaust is a well engineered and tuned exhaust.

Why do Vettes sounds better than fbodies, even with the same exhaust setup? A large reason is simply because the Vette has a true dual system the whole way back, with a crossover pipe.

An fbody with true duals definelty sounds different than an fbody with the stock suspension setup.

The Zeta cars have a true dual exhaust , I dont see why the Camaro would be any different . The old 3rd and 4th gen exhaust was a complete compromise due to limitations in the floor pan . Designed in the late 70's early 80's and basically never re-engineered , there really was no need for true dual ... hence the famous converter hump and single piping .

Gotta love the hump!!

If any model turns out to be y-piped, I figure it'll be the base model. And that shouldn't be too hard to engineer, all you got to do is connect them somewhere before the firewall(over/under transmission) and have the pipe run down one of the cleared pathways for exhaust system.

Of course, engineering such a thing might be too costly and may make maintainence difficult, so perhaps all models will have dual exhaust.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the V6 cars (if nothing else, the base/entry V6) have a single exhaust (ie: Y-pipe). If there is room for duals, there's room for a single! That would basically cut the cost of the exhaust system to nearly ~50%! Sounds "economical" to me!

As seen on the concept, I fully expect a true dual system on the V8 cars. A cross-over pipe wouldn't surprise me though either ... I'm sure that may be a tool used to "tune" the exhaust from the factory .

I can only hope....

Thats the single reason the Vette sounds sooo much better than an F-body.
