A pulley seems like kind of an abstract mod for a turboed car.

A stock LS1 is going to pull on a stock TTA. Especially on the top end.

Here what comes? Does anyone actually think a stock Turbo Trans am is faster than a stock 4th gen LS1? I have never heard of a stock TTA turning a 12 sec 1320, and I have never heard of a stock TTA trapping 108mph. There are several LS1 cars that have done just that, especially the 108 trap speeds.

Yes. 89 TTA, 171 mph, straights at Indy in 1989. LS1, electronically limited to 162 mph

I have.

Neither have I.
(but give me $50, a crescent wrench, and a paper clip and I can trap about 113 mph.)

That would be considered modding the car, correct?

Without it's factory limiter, a Firehawk ran to 171 mph as well. That is with supposedly poorer 4th gen aero.

I have.
Well, in that case maybe a TTA vs an LS1 would be a good race, instead of the "LS1 never having a chance", but my money is still on the LS1.

What is your point MacGyver? This was about a stock car vs a stock car.

Re: A twist on the Z28 vs SS debate

My LS1 beats my Grand National, which has the same drivetrain as a TTA. See sig for mods -- the GN has a lot more than the LS1 does.

How much lighter are TTAs than GNs?

Re: A twist on the Z28 vs SS debate

Most TTA times I've seen bone stock are anywhere from 13.4 to 14.0 stock and trapping 100 to as high as 103. For a stock car, a 103 trap isn't going to go much quicker than a 13.4. I can't see it running 12s without slicks. If you can trap 113 with a paperclip and some tire shine, the report of a bone stock TTA running 12s is most likely bogus. I'm sure it had the paperclip mod. But that's JMHO.

Somebody fill me in -- what's the paperclip mod?

And 1BADDAM, what would you do with the $50 and the crescent wrench?

Re: A twist on the Z28 vs SS debate

I dont think they nessacarily need to compete for a top dog spot. Correct me if im wrong, but in the first gen weren't fully packaged Z/28's cost as much as a SS. Which would you consider the top dog in the first gen? Maybe the SS offered a 396 Big block, ripped some killer 1/4 mile times, but the Z/28 was the road racing king, taking 2 out of 3 trans am championships 1967-69, and the 302 wasnt a slouch at the 1/4 either. So why not repeat that in the 5th, since they're trying to repeat everything else about it. A killer 350Zish Z/28 would bring a sport image back to the Camaro image with a high reving V-8 and suspension upgrades. An SS could be a pavement stomper, tearing about anything with a blue oval or hemi next to it at any given stoplight. Both would be top dogs in their own right, at their own purpose.
