Well it looks like ZL1 won out over Z28!

Re: Well it looks like ZL1 won out over Z28!
Some things I like, 6.2 supercharged, electric steering, vented hood, onstar apps. Some things I don't like, another year of waiting, black interior only, no Z28 badge, no mention of an automatic. Glad it looks like they took to beefing up the parts to handle the power. I'm not gonna want to be a first year guy however in case there are some bugs that need to be worked out so a 2 year wait for me if they price it around $45k although I'm sure it will be at least $50k plus gas guzzler tax. I've been waiting to hear the specs on this car and get some pics of it.

I have to say I love the looks and can't wait to hear more. I am not sure I will buy a track ready car but at the same time if you told me a couple of years ago that I'd be driving an SS Camaro I'd have had serious doubts.

Re: Well it looks like ZL1 won out over Z28!
To be honest I liked the looks of the Motor Trend Z28 sneak peak from 2 years ago better, not as much clutter and a forward facing scoop. It was the orange car with white stripes not a real car but an animated mock up. I'll hold off til I see some better pics but what I've seen so far I like the 392 better.

Yup...but I am not going to get one. My current car will hold its own against it.
Actually, the only real major option is exterior color and steering wheel/shifter material.
Never say never, keep the faith, all that...
Won't be available on the ZL1.
We hope it is that low.
Dealer markup will surely suck all over again. Refuse Camaro Markups!!

FYI it has been used on Camaros in the past..

Other than that you are correct IMO.

As far as the name choice for the current ZL1 Camaro, I actually think it was the right choice for this vehicle as a high horsepower two ton vehicle just really does not seem to be appropriate for a Z/28. I think we'll see a new Z/28 farther down the road when they can produce something closer to the Z/28 heritage, even if it means waiting until the 6th gen. Camaro and the Alpha chassis.

Re: Well it looks like ZL1 won out over Z28!
I'm glad GM chose to name this car ZL1 over Z28. This car will be very impressive in many ways but had it been named Z28 a lot of people would have written it off as not true to heritage. ZL1 seems to fit this ultimate Camaro better anyway and people should have an open mind about it. Especially since many have never heard of a ZL-1 Camaro this is a way for GM to honor the past but move into the future.
I think they were listening to us.
Hopefully there is a Z28 in the future even if that means 6th Gen.

Re: Well it looks like ZL1 won out over Z28!
I fully believe they could similarly pull 150-200 lbs out of the Camaro (a lower percentage of the total mass, since the SS starts around 3860 lbs), even with the wider wheels / tires that a Z/28 should get. After all, the new 20x10/20x11 wheels with 285/305 tires on the ZL1 weigh 22 lbs LESS (as a set of 4) than the standard SS wheels (245/275 widths).
A 3650 lb Z/28 with a tweaked LS3 (~450-475 hp) or, in a dream world, with the LS7, would absolutely ROCK.
That said, I'm in love with the ZL1 regardless. I'd love to see both in the lineup. But for now, I think the handling of this car is going to surprise some people. This thing is going to fly!!
Also, now that we know 285s can fit up front, can we please get a handling package on the SS that includes 275s up front? That change alone (with whatever minor suspension tuning revisions needed to work with them, if any) would do a lot to even things up with the Mustang in the handling department, IMO.
