What Can The Z/28 Be
#61
That's the Z/28 that weighs 800 pounds more than a Corvette? How much less does a unicorn weigh than a Corvette? Since neither a Z/28 or Unicorn exists, we can't do the math, I guess.
I guess Chevy should have just engineered the 2010 Camaro off of their small RWD compact...oh, wait, they don't have one like they did in 1963 to use as the basis for Camaro development.
You're angry, I understand, but I'll take the Camaro we have vs. no Camaro.

A 3900 lb Chevelle with no rear seat room.

I had often said that it made no sense for a Camaro to be as big as a "full size" Impala and that Camaro should be sized down in scale to where a 1967 Camaro would have been in comparison to a 1967 Impala. Pony cars haven't really gotten a whole lot bigger, but everything else has gotten considerably smaller and cars that were "small" in 1970 are pretty darn big by modern standards.
But it's a fact of the market that RWD has over the years become reserved for expensive imports or large American cars. It's not like the 1960s where they could say "we need a small sporty car, grab that Nova chassis, would ya?" They had exactly one RWD platform to choose from and that's the one that they had to make do with. They also have to deal with safety standards and customer equipment expectations that have made all cars much heavier than they were when Camaro left the stage.
Assuming that there will be a 6th Gen., I think we'll see a smaller lighter car. But despite the weight, I like the 5th Gen. and plan on getting a 3.6 RS with a manual trans. That's plenty of car for me and I think it will likely be the sportiest 6 cylinder Camaro ever.
I shall gladly take it out against 6 cylinder Fairlanes (Mustangs) and Coronets (Challengers).

However, there will be a Z28. It just won't be available at the initial launch.

Good point, but what I was actually trying to say was that all of these cars were originally based on "Compacts" (Valiant, Falcon, Nova), but if the Camaro is the modern equivalent of a Chevelle since it's "mid size" by modern standards, then the Mustang and Challenger should be equivalent to their companies historic mid-sizers (Fairlane and Coronet) rather than compacts as well.

I try to read diligently about stuff before posting, but I must have missed something. I thought SHE said the Z28 was dead? please be so kind to direct me to information otherwise.

i only read the 1st page, but i said it before and i will say it again. people here pretty much wanted in the new camaro a corvette but for 15k less.
I mean u people who own 4th gens and complain about the low quality build of the car also complain when they make the 5th gen high quality at the expense of LBS. ITS ONE OR THE OTHER! OR BUY A VETTE. And to the people who say "the vette only has 2 seats i cant put my kids in it", why the hell would you be towing your family around in a 500 hp car? That's what FAMILY cars are for. The vette and/or the Z28 is/would be a toy for the grown-ups, not a car to take family picnics with.

that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. corvette's are for short people? LOL...maybe if you're FAT you may not be able to fit in it. THAT i could possibly understand, but even then you would have to be pretty damn fat to not fit in the vette
