What concerns do you have about the next Camaro?
#33
My main concerns are ....
Weight . 36-3700 lbs will not keep me from buying , my full weight non-gutted 95 TA vert drag car weighed 3750 with me in it . A GT500'ish 39-4000 lbs will .
Wheel well opening size - I hope to god I can downsize to 18" wheel on a lowered car without it looking like it has 15's . Alot of new cars , the wheel wells are designed to make the 19"+ wheel sizes look normal . Wheels that big are not for me . ......[i]though it may make it real easy to fit a 30" slick [/b]
Durabilty of the drivetrain - I hope to god they make up for all the years of the puny 7.5" ring gear and vibrating driveshafts . For once I hope we have a drivetrain up to the job and dont have to sink a load of cash into the IRS to make it durable . They didnt have factory (possibly)500 hp Camaros in 2002 , so maybe the driveline will up to the task .

Here is one I thought about...
Will Camaro cary the Holden bolt pattern, or will there be a new hub made to fit the 5x4.75 bolt pattern? Thats a good question, I wonder if Scott could answer that. Its not like its giving any major info away. If not, that would make Corvette the ONLY car to continue on with the classic GM 5x4.75 bolt pattern.

I'm just now catching up to this site and this board, so be tolerant if I'm covering ground thats already been mentioned ---
But my three biggest concerns are:
1) Interior (as others have said) -- the concept interior is too far out there -- it needs to be a balanced blend of retro and new tech. If its the same chromed crappola as in the concept, I might not buy.
2) Price. Is there ANY chance a Z28/SS version will come in at under $40K??
3) High-end V8. Any chance the LS7 will be included? 500+ HP is nice, but in what package? Anyone have some solid inside "hints" yet, as to what will see the showroom floors?
Besides all that, I agree that weight and the ability to throw aftermarket mods on it will be important, also.
I've decided to wait on "betting the farm" on a used '06/'07 Z06 Vette for the new Camaro.
I hope the wait will be worth it!

My main concern is right there with a few others I've seen here: price. The Camaro was always an affordable car, even fully loaded. If this one goes too far north of $30k (before those insipid dealer markups that you just know we're going to have to fight through) for the fully loaded top end model (whether it be Z28 or SS), sales will suffer.
If a mid level V8 nicely equiped 6 speed manual comes in a $25k, they will sell boat loads.

Weight is my #1 concern, as it affects how the car FEELS while it's handling. Yeah, you can engineer a 3700 pound car to handle like it's on rails, with a tight suspension that has good geometry and really wide tires...but it's still going to feel heavy, and tossability is one of the major points that one can enjoy in a car without putting yourself or other drivers at a lot of risk. The way the car feels zigging and zagging, or storming that highway onramp....plays a huge factor in how much fun I feel like I'm having in a vehicle.
I know they'll get the engine/tranny right, as it's basically the same thing they've been putting out forever, I know the interior will be at least passable, and I know the real world performance will be higher than the mustang...I just want it to FEEL really good while doing it.
I really....REALLY want the car to come in at something like 3600 pounds....3650 at the most. I suspect we're going to be looking at more like 3700-3750 for the V8 models. This disappoints me, but I'm waiting to see. It's not a deal breaker, I plan on modifying the car after a couple years (it's going to be my first NICE new car, as I'll be done with school and working a good job by the time the 2nd or 3rd year of the car, when I'll buy, comes around, and I plan on keeping it for many years), and if I have to I can swap the wheels for some nice light 17's or 18's, drop quite a bit of weight that way, and then do some stripping, shed some parts I don't need, etc....but it'd be nice if the car was as light as possible to start out with. I know the engineers are doing their best.....and I know that because it's running on a shared platform it's going to be a bit heavier than it SHOULD be, just like the Mustang and 350Z....but that keeps costs way down....
We'll see. I'm sure I'll love it, I just really wish it weighed more like the mustang (well, less, but that's not gonna happen period)

That they'll release the car with that terrible grill design, tiny spoiler, and interior. Let's here it for big differences between models or apprearance options.
Other than that, weight and power enough to destroy all challengers. Maybe ease of modification too.

There will be an LSA, making mid 500's, this will be placed in the CTS-V and Z06
And then the LS9, the big dog making over 600hp in the new ZR1.

That's an excellent point, but I still think that Camaro will never even come close to winning the sales race against Mustang if it's priced higher.

Oh and my other concern will be not being able to find one to buy. I'm going to guess that GM will sell so many in the first year that they won't have enough to go around. That is, if dealers don't rape us on the mark up.
Similar thing happened in 1993. There weren't enough T56s to go around so a 6 speed 93 is rare.
