Where is your purchase-o-meter pegged?

I don't typically go to European car forums to see what they think of Camaros. Frankly - I don't care. I suppose GM does care to some extent, but any sales of the new Camaro in Europe are going to a very tiny fraction of US sales - so again why would one focus on that?

I don't mean European car sites - from Europe. I mean "European car" sites from here. And I'm not surprised in the least bit that you don't care what they think about the Camaro, but I'd advise GM to care. There are more than afew people on those forums who are not only following Camaro developements closely, they also express a strong interest in buying one.

There are Mopar forums where a pic like that would be met with "huh huh teh Mustang is goin to be so ****ty and ghey SRT4 FTW" and forums where that would be met with a discussion -- informed by a couple of ex-big-three engineers with test experience -- about what everything in that pic was, speculation as to Ford's actual likely design direction, business case for various possible variants, etc.
In other words, there's pretty much the same variation you see in the Ford and GM forums.

Discussions like that tend to happen on Allpar, specifically in the News and Rumors forums. I don't know if that specific pic is currently being discussed or not -- I don't read the non-Mopar-specific parts of Allpar very often.

My thoughts exactly. I'm 27 and my newest vehicle was 4 years old when I bought it. We got my fiance a brand new 2005 Tacoma (in '04), but that's technically "hers" and I don't want to ever have to worry about her on the side of the road somewhere. This may be the only car I ever buy brand new. Mostly because it's something I want to take care of and keep. I don't want one some punk ragged the hell out of and have the motor blow at 80K or something like that.

i wanna buy it new that way i know it hasnt been molested.i cant tell you how many times after a bought a camaro ,and got deep into it and was like WHY did they run this like that !!!!!! or why did they put this in it!!!!!! WHY GOD WHY DID THEY APHRO ENGINEER THIS !!!!!!!.why did they put mass airflow parts on a speed density setup.and then spend most of my extra money trying to put it right.

I do buy some cars used, some new. I got my 05 GP GXP used, it was a pretty good deal. But for 'special' cars like those with collector potential (as I believe the new Camaro is), I tend to buy them new. There's something really cool about the 'new car smell'... the way they are perfect and unmolested... and also the option to order the car exactly how you want. I ordered my 99 Formula with a unique combo, taupe leather with Navy Blue Metallic paint... and have yet to see one since like that. I loved that car and enjoyed it a lot more than some others I've had - including the 05 GTO I had (bought off the lot).

Another issue is body damage. Premier body shops are experts at repairing major body damage, with none of the telltale signs (overspray, mismatched hues etc) people typically look for. Some such situations and repairs can slip by places like Carfax.

We'll see. It would be nice if Camaro could gain mass defections from the kind of person looking at a VW GTI or R32 or BMW 3 or 1 series.
Would be nice. But I'm not so sure it's going to happen in any substantial numbers though, for a couple of reasons.
BTW, VWVortex has like 4 threads going on the Camaro spy pics. It's kind of interesting reading. They've cut and pasted a couple of Scott's posts there, and are trying to figure out who this guy from GM is.

I dont think it has to be mass defections. Id be happy with a few that tried it out and told their BMW buddies, yeah I still love BMW but I picked up a Camaro for a fraction of the price with just as good build quality and maybe more reliable. Im still a BMW guy but how can you pass that up? you cant buy that kind of advertising
He also has a 1980 Bill Mitchell turbo Camaro, (one which I unfortunately let slip through my fingers ). One of two. If you're not familiar with Bill Mitchell, he was a top notch Camaro tuner in the late '70s and early '80s.
Guess which car my friend takes to the Porsche Club of America autocross events.
