That is the problem, and that is why the Camaro failed to begin with. It did NOT appeal to anyone outside the muscle car community and thus it died. It needs to appeal to others or it will die again for good so that is why it is important to gain buyers other than the traditional few out there.

A chevelle is a chevelle
A camaro is a camaro
what does the concpet remind you of? (especially taking into account the more realisic producytion model which'll probaly have slightly softer bodylines and a slightly less agressive grill and that back end is defiintiely gonna change some)
end of story

The product will sell itself no matter what name is attached to it. Stigmas or stereotypes of the past are just that, past. This is a serious chance for Camaro to make a new name for itself with a generation of buyers that either didn't know Camaro or would have never considered it in the past. There's a different sheriff in town for sure.

Camaro is considered on of the top 5 most recognized name plates, I think that's why it deserves the name. We want its sales to be a hit, so with people recognizing the name, that will be a plus it has to its advantage.

Stigmas and stereotypes die hard. GM should know this better than anyone.

Re: Why call it Camaro?

Camaro is an excellent name for it. I mean look at people my age (18-21ish range). The vast majority have never bought a brand new Camaro or car (at least without mommy and daddy's help). So you see people like me who believe in the names, but long for the satisfaction of owning a BRAND NEW one. By the time the Camaro hits production many people my age will be in the position to buy a new car. Me personally will have just graduated college and gotten a new job...the PERFECT time to buy a new car...and I already know which car that will be.

Exactly! If some "upperclass" people don't buy Camaros, it'll be because they're not interested in a rear-wheel drive muscle car priced in the mid to upper $20s. No matter what it's called, those people will still buy their S-class Benzes and 3-series BMWs instead. The Camaro name will not turn off very many potential buyers because they're shopping for a type of car, not a name.

Re: Why call it Camaro?

There's nothing out there that doesn't have a some kind of negative stereotype. The Camaro nameplate is no different in this regard. What we should focus on are the positives, and the Camaro name can conjure up some pretty strong positives.
