My friend, (who also owns a 5th gen) works for a railroad which ships Camaros from Oshawa. One of the railcars tipped over with 14 Camaros in it. His company had to buy them all and have them crushed. He told me that most, if not all of them, were still driveable, but had irrepairable structural damage. Even he couldn't get any parts from them.
Maybe some parts filtered to Oshawa area junkyards.....

I think they destroy test type cars for liability reasons. If it's a 'saleable' vehicle, they treat them gently because they will try to turn around and sell it. If anything were intended to go through testing that would give it a salvage title, it wouldn't ever be able to be sold.

Somewhat of a related story although not to the Camaro.. Sorry Jordon.
When I worked at GM Design many years ago there was a concept car that had those special one of a kind set of tires made with the logo of the brand embossed into the tread. Somehow those tires were thrown into a dumpster and somehow ended up on a vehicle with no connection to GM. While driving months later this car crashed on the freeway and it was found that those concept car tires were on the car and had failed. (They are not intended to be used on public roads especially at high speeds) The driver sued GM and got a settlement. After that everything from our facility and others at the Tech Center that was to be thrown out had to be crushed. No exemptions. This was bad news for a lot of engineers and technicians who have "found" some nice things in the trash over the years but knew better than to come after GM if something failed!

Lawsuits ruin a lot of people's good time... I hate the "punish everyone because of one idiot" behavior. Imagine grabbing a nice LS3 out of a test car and taking it home. That would be an excellent job perk!
