Very interesting test.
Will be fun to see them go head to head on a road course with a pro driver though. I do not think it is surprising that the ZL1 is the easier car to drive on real roads, nor necessarily that it had more lateral grip and slalom speed than the GT500 (MSRC + significantly wider tires). What did surprise me was that the slalom difference was 1.7mph, which is a pretty big gap.

I'm waiting for a side-by-side on a road course with the 1LE and Boss Laguna Seca thrown in for good measure. While I would expect the GT500 and ZL1 to be faster in a straight-line, I'm curious to see how close the little brothers are to the $50k+ super cars on a "real" track.
I actually prefer GM's solution over Ford's. If you want a pure straight-line drag car, there's always COPO.

Not if you want to drive to the track.
Ford just released a "ring" video. Word is the car was running 179mph on the long straight. Do not expect Ford to release "ring" times unless they get slandered pretty bad on an actual road course.
I predict the ZL1 will carry more speed in the very tight turns, and the GT500 will do the same on the less tight turns. GT500 will pull alot on straights. ZL1 will be easier for a novice to drive decently, and GT500 will put up better numbers with a pro driver, but will be called more raw.
ZL1 will win around circle of cones in a parking lot.
Neither car is a road racer. No supercharged 4000lb+/- is. Post that disappeared on another site, of actual road race of said 4000++ lb car stated this. Owner was disappointed in heat soak, and seeing Boss taillights. Of course, without video, I know it didn't happen.

As a regular to the Cobra Jet Shootout I can attest that they are all trailered.
Lulz...
?!
But what we do have for information says otherwise.
When a car comes with track driving modes, oil cooler, trans cooler, diff cooler, and magnetic suspension with massive brakes, it passes the litmus test for road racer.

FWIW that's now two early magazine head-to-head comparisons (Inside Line & Automobile Mag) that are declaring the ZL1 the clear winner in the handling department.
