I don't think they are doing to detune the CTS-V's LSA from 556 hp to 505 hp for use in a car designed to compete with the 550 hp (and more to come) GT500...

Also, not to pick nits, but the thread title says closest guess wins. That means if the real number is 575, someone guessing 576 should win over someone guessing 570. But for some reason the rules include the "without going over" clause, which has never made one lick of sense to me... Shouldn't the most accurate guess win? Maybe I should change my vote to 1 hp...

 

A good point. I had a reason for the "not going over" part, but I cannot seem to conjure it up now, so I have changed the rules (if anyone has issue with this please PM me). As you said the closest guess (plus or minus) will be the winning post.

However, I expect someone will hit the number exactly.

 

The only way I see the ZL1 with that kind of scoots is if they also "upgrade" the Z06 to similar HP. It may not be the flagship ZR1 but even the Corvette Coupe has 430 HP just to keep up with our lowly 426. I just don't see them slotting ANY Camaro between the Z06 and the ZR1.

I think you are going to be surprised. The Z06 weighs 3200 lbs, probably 800-900 lbs less than the ZL1. The 505 hp Z06 will almost surely slaughter a ZL1 in any speed contest (just as the 436 hp base Vette will run more or less even with a 550 hp GT500 or a 556 hp CTS-V), so the horsepower number is a bit irrelevant.

Darn! beat me too it. I figured the same thing. But what's leaving me uneasy is the LS7. GM wanted it at 500hp, however SAE gave the rating of 505hp. So you never know.

I'm going to guess 600, even though I won't win a prize pack with that number now
