I think you are going to be surprised. The Z06 weighs 3200 lbs, probably 800-900 lbs less than the ZL1. The 505 hp Z06 will almost surely slaughter a ZL1 in any speed contest (just as the 436 hp base Vette will run more or less even with a 550 hp GT500 or a 556 hp CTS-V), so the horsepower number is a bit irrelevant.

I do see your point, but I for one would be absolutely stunned if they hyped the ZL1 with the LSA (which makes 556 hp in its sole installation so far) and then delivered the car with a 10% drop in power. Hopefully we'll see soon enough!

620. one hundred hp per liter. Would be nice but I doubt it and since everything in the 570 range is taken then this my stab at it.

Ah, I see. You are right, they used to not want any car to outpower the Vette, but I think those rules have gone away somewhat. I know the CTS-V isn't a Chevy, but it's in the same family...Plus, even at 505 hp, the ZL1 would still be ahead of the base / Grand Sport Vette. Not sure why the line would have to be drawn at Z06 level.

IMO only, but the Z06 boys are mostly paying 19-25k more than a base Vette for the engine/performance upgrades. To have a Camaro provide more HP and most likely comparable handling characteristics for arguably less money ( no one is going to pay 20k more for a ZL1 in my little world ), is kind of a slap in the face to them.

They aren't just going to (supposedly) throw all that horsepower in just to go in a straight line. The handling may not match the Z06 (or even the Coupe/Grand Sport) tit for tat, but it'll be night and day to a current SS Camaro and it will approach Corvette range- I'd personally bank on it.

There is no way to make a 4000lb car handle like a 3200lb car with a significantly lower center of gravity. Period. They won't feel remotely alike in handling. The Camaro may be able to come close in terms of lateral acceleration, but all other measures of handling (transient response, low speed corners, etc) will fall significantly short. There is no way to deny physics.
That's not to say that the handling will be bad - it wont. It'll be stellar, especially for the weight, because the Camaro platform is inherently extremely stiff. But it's not going to be anything like a Corvette. Handling isn't just about lateral acceleration (that's mostly a function of suspension geometry and tires).
