Z/28 = Z06?

Is this hearsay or is it fact that the Z/28 will be like the Z06 is to the vette?

I'd just like to know, because I wasn't expecting to drop ~$40k on the 5th(gotta have that Z/28!), but if I have to...I have to.

Just curious!

I hope so. I'd rather them not have a Z28 that is, in reality just a regular Camaro w/ a V8 option.

Re: Z/28 = Z06?

Haven't looked into this yet, but I'm willing to bet they will first offer a "modest" z-28ish package with a slick engine and tranny in year one. After thousands of people buy the z-28, Chevy will spit out an SS version, or something above and beyond that. That will **** off all the people who bought the previous "lesser" version just a few months earlier. The "blow your ***** off" version of the new camaro is going to come with a velcro strap fastened to the drivers seat just forward of the crotch area that you can use to prevent your ***** from ripping off during hard accelleration.

P.S. If you find any ***** laying in the road, email me.

Re: Z/28 = Z06?

The Z/28 ought to be a hardcore marchine that is targeted to amateur racers in both SCCA solo II and production class drag racing. That's what the original Z/28 was, and when performance got so pitiful in 1975, GM had the guts to put the emblem away for a couple years until they could return with a good suspension setup and a 350 for 1977.

If GM returns to their F-car roots, the Z/28 would be a sports car oriented machine with performance suspension. Of course, things have gotten complicated. Now we have Camaro, Camaro RS, Camaro Z/28, Camaro SS, B4C Camaro, 1LE Camaro Z28, and maybe even Camaro Z28 SS. So, which ones will GM choose to bring on line?

How about this as a prediction:
Camaro - Base car, V6 powered, nice interior and good Hertz rental material.
Camaro RS - Base car, V6 or V8 powered, automatic transmission, A/C, but with soft enough suspension to make it comfortable on long drives. Lots of doodads and geehaws available as options.
Camaro Z/28 - V8 powered, nice interior, pre-packaged with lots of geehaws and doodad options, but with performance suspension.
Camaro SS - V8 powered only, loadable with whatever kind of options you would ever want including a big powerful engine. Exterior design cues and special paint schemes available.

Camaro Z28/1LE - Stripper performance machine with little creature comforts save maybe cruise control, radio, and air conditioning. Think "Firebird Formula". A budget race machine for the amateur SCCA autocrosser or drag racer.

Re: Z/28 = Z06?

No one around here knows buppkiss about how the Z28 will be equiped or positioned in the lineup (save maybe Mr. Settlemire), it's up in the air. Mr. Settlemire has subtly said he likes the idea of the Z28 being "top dawg", but frankly I wonder how much say he has in the matter. Guess we'll find out in a few years.

I frankly find it hard to believe the Z28 will come anywhere near the level the Z06 has reached. If we get a mild engine upgrade at all (assuming the mid level setup is a LS3 level engine and not a lower output 5.3 or somethign) I'll be surprised. If it ends up top dawg I'm kinda figuring it will end up just a supsension/intake/exhaust upgrade over the SS like the SS once was over the Z28... Again, guess we'll find out.

I'd call that an inaccurate statement.

And this is where I get confused. In as cryptic of a manner as you have to, would you care to describe just what position the z28 would fill? My curiousity lies in whether it will be a 1LE type car, or simply the Mustang Cobra of Camaros.

Re: Z/28 = Z06?

Id be willing to bet Z06esque or anything of that nature is quite the overstatement.

Despite looks the Z06 is almost a ground up new car... Body panels, suspension, engine, trans... everything that matters. It would cost way too much for Camaro to do that.

Im sure at least one car will get a thorough performance makeover, more than just engine. But what its called remains to be seen.

Anyone who was at the Heritage center the night before the Camaro's unveiling can tell you, that most of us were pressing the Camaro Team for a "real" Z/28. We had many discussions on what a "real" Z/28 is, and how the Z/28 ball was dropped COMPLETELY on the 4th gen.

As it turned out, we were all singing to the choir.........
