I'd love to see a sort of 1LE-Z/28, but from what I hear from people "in the know" it might not happen.

I'd deffinently like to see the Z/28 be very competitive stock in a racing series, so I hope GM takes that into account(ie. no blower or too big of an engine).

While they were no doubt a fun car, they just didn't sell. You'd probably be pretty safe in looking at how the top performing cars from Corvette and Mustang are comprised in terms of content (not just performance parts, but the other options as well) to see the direction that that new "high end performance" cars of tomorrow will take.

As it turned out, we were all singing to the choir.........
That is GREAT news

How did the original z28s sell compare to the other models? Why does the z28 have to be a trim level? Why can't it be a stand alone handling option in lieu of the spirit of a 1LE car?

Re: Z/28 = Z06?

I want a special full on race Z/28. Striped down comfort options, loaded with racing options. Functional brake ducts, an even more hi output engine, racing harness, window net, steering wheel from Colorado Cruz Concept (pictured below), tac (with shift light) etc.

Never mind the fact, that a stripper car, would cost as much as a loaded car, as you would have to create new wiring harnesses and what not just for it.

I'm not sure, but I was referring to the 1LE cars of the 3rd and 4th gen variety, not the original Z28. I'm pretty sure the last year the 1LE was offered, 11 were sold.

I'm with you on the the handling option thing. I thought all along that the 4th gen should have had just a CAMARO w/ a V6 and optional V8, exactly as they were built, but with the deletion of the Z28 badging. Then offered RPOZ28 as a handling package using 1LE parts. The stripped down 1LE's didn't sell, but a V8 Camaro w/ air, t-tops ect, w/ a Z28 package would have been a nice car, sandwiched between the V8 Camaro, and the SS. But that idea was shot down by so many ways by the people in the know that I can't even remember them all.

To answer the question though, no one (except a few on this board ) buys stripped cars anymore like the original Z28.

See, this is where people start reading things the wrong way. I don't know about what everyone else wrote in this thread, but I know a stripper car is not going to be an option. However, when we are talking a z28 race type rpo code, why not make it keeps options down to the minimum they can be kept to? Do not make all the other candy stuff standard. I am not think of z28 as a trim level above anything. It would be an extensive handling add on package, like the RS was (although that was much less extensive).

I would be dissapointed if the Z/28 turned into an overweight appearance package. It'd be comparable to the GT500...and that isn't a good thing.

That is not what I was trying to imply at all. My point was that if you wanted the RS package, you could at it to the car you are ordering. Likewise, if you wanted the z28 handling package, that could be added to the car you are ordering as well.

Is that clear enough?
