I'd have to agree. As much as I'd like to see it, there's been nothing to more than suggest that such a car might be built.

Times have changed man. Look at the Mustang, it has a 200hp difference between the GT and the GT500. Have you ever seen a 200hp difference in Mustang hp before?

Camaro WILL NOT come in underpowered against the GT500. Take it to the bank.

And why would that be relevant to what the top Camaro will have ?

But to answer the original question:

JeffInDFW.....I didn't reply before, because even though I got my Z06 to "hold me over" until the "Bad-@ss" Camaro comes out, every once in a while I find myself asking "Z28 or C6 Z06". I'm the last one to give advice as I'm a bit torn myself. For now, at least, the answer to me is consistently "Z28", but in a couple of years (after the dealer gouging hopefully subsides), who knows?

........but, now that you put a new ZR1 as an option, it would be a NO BRAINER for me. ZR1

That's only if you can even get a ZR1 at MSRP. With dealer markups and the supply and demand for the best bang for the buck supercar on the planet I don't think that anyone will be getting one for less than $150k. Personally I would go with the Z06. Then IF the ZR1 is obtainable I would sell the Z06.

What in the past 5 years or so has made anyone think that GM is following the "rules of old"? Corvette's, GTO's, CTS-v's, etc. have all shared engines without changing the horsepower ratings for each model. Why would they start that again with the new Camaro?

So, that has now become my personal battle. Since i was 16, I have always owned a Camaro or Firebird. I'm now 41. Still have a 95 6 speed in my driveway. But I also have a GTS Viper. I love the bad boy image the Camaro has, and the 550hp LSA would be soooooo awsome! But, you guys also know how killer the C6 Z06 is too.

Am I the only one in this boat? Honestly, which would YOU buy? My heart is with the Camaro, but the 3,100 pound Z06 would be a lot more fun to drive....For the same amount of money, it is a tough call.
Jeff, You already have a Viper, and thats pretty much a similar approach to a Z06...
On the other hand, a 5th gen Camaro convertible is a whole other program, IMO. Open air experience which neither the Viper nor a Z06 will deliver. You will also be short a couple of seating positions if you steer away from Camaro.

If the open air option isn't important, then a coupe Camaro will be a different consideration in pricing.

Look at the G8 GXP that’s getting a De-tuned version of the LS3 rated at ~405hp. Also the CTS-V is also getting a De-tuned LS9 aka LSA. GM has learned their lesson they do not want no car topping their Vette. Plus other reasons such as CAFE. Therefore any engine that is in the Vette to goes into another GM car will most likely be the water down version of it.

That's your opinion. Your opinion is wrong in this particular case.

I own an "obnoxious off shore cigarette boat", drive it on Lake St. Clair, wear t-shirts, drive a pickup truck and belong to no clubs of any sort. I own it because its the last true vestage of owning a hot rod where you can put in as much camshaft as you want, build as much horsepower into it as you want, and hit the throttles whenever you want without worrying about a cop with a radar gun being around the corner. I gave up my built Monte Carlo SS for it because I was tired of tripping over a car in the garage that was too nice to drive or leave in the wrong neighborhood, a parking lot, or out in the rain. I spend my nights in the garages with auto hot rodders talking about heads, valves, jetting combinations, and everything elese you can imagine. I'd give up a hot rod for my twin big block boat any day becuase I live near the water...but now that the boat is paid for I'm gonna have a Camaro ragtop in the garage next year. And I'm going to drive it rain or shine. Offshore boats are the ultimate in hot rodding because the only limit you have is your wallet...which limits out when too much horsepower starts breaking too many other parts. And if you can build your own engines (as I do), and be a pretty good wrench man they are no more expensive than a hot rod that sits unused in your garage.
I also hope to be able to afford to make my Camaro as obnoxious as my boat.......so wheres the problem?
And by the way....I can sleep on my boat (or do other things in the cabin day or night).

My guess is that GM will give the same engine to the "Top Dog" Camaro as it will offer in the new CTS-V and possibly offer thru the dealer a perfomance pack to close the gap with the ZR1. Gm as well as the other auto makers will only have a small window to continue to produce these cars in big production numbers due to the new fuel economy regs that will be changing what we will be offered as factory perfomance cars.
