Re: Z28!!! That is right Z28, baby!
The C&G thread said that the orange concept is a 1/3 scale model proposed concept which was not chosen. And I like the one they did choose better.
Mock-ups and drawings are going to have all different kinds of badging, and it really doesn't tell you anything about the production car. There's no sense getting excited about this.
Seriously -- if you were designing a 5th gen Camaro, wouldn't you put badges on it for either RS, Z28, SS, or ZL1, and probably some big cubic-inch badge too? Seriously. Anyone that's enough of a Camaro freak to be working that job in the first place is going to do exactly that, hence the Z/28 badge, the SS steering wheel with 427 on the seat, and all of the other badges in the pics. None of it means anything!
There is no doubt in my mind that there will be a Z28 and an SS Camaro. I don't know which one is going to be top dog, and I really don't care all that much, as long as they're both sweet cars that stop all over the Mustang GT. A little GT500 stompage would be nice too.
I'm a little surprised that GM is targeting the 3 series. That is real information that we can run with. That's pretty sweet.

Yeah, I read that thread as saying the SS was proposed and the implication was that it was rejected.
To be honest I agree that there's too much G6 and overall I think it's hideous. It's too rounded and bubbly. The concept they went with has more creases and chisled - and as a result has a much more futuristic demeanor. Something that rounded would look old by the time it hit the roads - the actual concept won't - at least in my opinion.
I agree that the list of competitors is great to see! Mustang was too obvious. Infiniti G35 would seem like a stretch until my wife got a 350z (only because she couldn't buy a Trans Am, btw). That 350z is a FUN car - can't keep it under 90 - although it is a little tight for my 6' 300# self. If the Camaro is that much fun to drive, I will be SO happy!! And targetting a BMW - BRILLIANT (assuming they surpass it). This car could be a real smash if they hit their marks!

I try not to read too much into these photos... as far as we know these are just the drawings of the design team and have absolutely nothing to do with deciding what engine will be in the car or what will be te top dog.
But thats just me, I can always dream though!
