ZL-1 engine for camaro?
I saw on motor trend that the camaro might have the ZL-1 engine in it, the 376 cu pushing 505 hp @6300 rpm and 470 torque @4800 rpm, it also says its a 11.4 sec 1/4 mile @130.5 mph weighing in at 3600lbs. now idk if this is true can nebody help me out here. i mean this is a brand new camaro they should at least have to put an engine in here to take the shelby gt500.

..and we all know how many times things change from writing to production model.
Besides, those bafoons on Motor Trend are silly. Why would GM put a 7 year old motor in car like the Z?? Id much rather predict the LS7 or something new...I dunno
My $.02,

Maybe he meant Z06...the hp/tq he posted are for the LS7, but the displacement is the same as the ZR-1?
On a side note, why is there such a huge drop off between the models? The ZR-1 with 638 hp and is the fastest Corvette, and then you have the ZR-2...which I guess is the fastest S-10?

GMPP did reintroduce the ZL-1 as a special edition crate motor a short time back (last couple years?) however that was an all-aluminum block big block at 454 cid.
So the ZL-1 in a Camaro? No way. I serious doubt GM would put the supercharged LS9 in the Camaro as well as there's no way they'd put their $116k super Corvette ZR-1 motor in anything but the ZR-1. The little sister LSA could be a possibility, but then we know that pushes 556 hp in the Caddy, but 505 hp could be a detuned number for Camaro. However, 505hp sounds like the LS7 in the Z06, but that's 505 hp with the dry sump set-up and rear mounted transmission. And 3600-lbs? As Charlie said, "not a chance."
Seriously though, why not simply use the hotcam version of the LS3 which GMPP already sells as a crate motor and which puts out 480 hp? I for one would be perfectly content with a Z/28 with just under 500 hp and some weight savings off the SS.

My dad just bought the "Anniversary 427 ZL-1" engine that they just came out with...it's supposed to be at the house on Friday or Monday...
oh yeah, only 427 of the anniversary ones are going to be built....
