ZL-1 engine for camaro?
#16
Tell me, is he putting it in a 69 Camaro?

Oh, so 422 HP doesn't qualify as "a lot"? Because the last time I checked, 422 HP doesn't fall under "underpowered" or "sufficient", even for a 3800 lb car.

422hp is more than what the Viper debuted with... With a nice big ~500lb difference between the two.
Are you sure you can afford the $30,995 price tag?
I think that's where you should be putting your efforts into, not some BS fake *** story about a special edition engine/model that is coming from a magazine and not GM.

GMPP did reintroduce the ZL-1 as a special edition crate motor a short time back (last couple years?) however that was an all-aluminum block big block at 454 cid.
So the ZL-1 in a Camaro? No way. I serious doubt GM would put the supercharged LS9 in the Camaro as well as there's no way they'd put their $116k super Corvette ZR-1 motor in anything but the ZR-1. The little sister LSA could be a possibility, but then we know that pushes 556 hp in the Caddy, but 505 hp could be a detuned number for Camaro. However, 505hp sounds like the LS7 in the Z06, but that's 505 hp with the dry sump set-up and rear mounted transmission. And 3600-lbs? As Charlie said, "not a chance."
Seriously though, why not simply use the hotcam version of the LS3 which GMPP already sells as a crate motor and which puts out 480 hp? I for one would be perfectly content with a Z/28 with just under 500 hp and some weight savings off the SS.

Take an L92 (or L99 I suppose) and give it a slightly more aggressive cam, the hollow/Na valves from the LS3, change the VVT parameters a bit and the rev limiter... then play with suspension and gearing, and add lightweight bits like composite hood and trunk... then put a Z28 badge on it and then you have a cool special edition car that wouldn't cost a zillion dollars to produce and would probably still get pretty good gas mileage. They should probably not worry about an LSA Camaro unless they want to sell like 10 of them so they don't affect CAFE.

Yes he is...a rather nice fully restored 1969 Camaro convertible...I've posted pictures on here before at some point. He did all the work himself in his 2 car garage (except installation of the cloth top) even painted it himself...it took him working every day after work for a FULL year
