Re: 5th gen gas mileage

My 2012 camaro v6 gets around 23-27 mpg right now and I am told it will get better mpg after it has broken in. I only have 700 miles on it right now

I'm very surprised to see people hitting 19+ mpg in the city. There have been many days I reset the gas mileage computer and then drive insanely slow and carefully for days at a time trying to maximize mileage, and I still can't top 17 no matter what I do. I don't know how people do it.

I get that in my '97 SS as well.

A v6 will get slightly better gas mileage than a v8. If gas mileage is a huge concern I'd go buy a Volt, Prius, or Hybrid.

I was doing 65 on the Ohio turnpyke last year in a Synergy Green Edition V6 and the instant economy flickered around 30 the whole time. I average 28 on a weekend trip from Detroit to Cleveland and back.

Re: 5th gen gas mileage

In 2005 I did a test for the local newspaper with out state energy director. We drove a 20 mile course in the same car and a reporter tracked the mileage and how long it took us to complete the route.

Although not completely scientifically quantified (accurate), my job was to drive crappy and fast and her job was to drive efficiently. The difference in mileage recorded was 90%.

Even if we are off by 20 percent on the data calculation, that is a huge difference based on driver habits.

Then why aren't you buying a 42mpg Cruze? Certainly 42 as compared to 29 would be a deal-breaker by your logic as well.
