i know the crate motors cost about 17,000. but .....the ls3 in gm performance catalog sells for 15,000. so if you were to buy a crate motor, you could probably sell the ls3 on ebay for some where around 10-12k if it were imediately taken out before driving the car too much. i dont think im going to do it, but i would love to. ill probably just throw a pro charger on.

or you could build a stroker LS3 for $7000 and have way more power than the crate LS3 engine

The LS376/480 (basically a cammed LS3 with 480hp) crate motor sells for about $7900.

ya and its only 480 hp 376ci and stock heads, my stroker LS3 is 415ci and has cnc ported heads, forged pistons, forged crank, forged h-beam rods and a better cam than the crate engine and will be way more than 480HP and i have $7000 total in it right now and its ready to bolt in!

yeah, and then you're done. with the 4.0 stroke, he can add a power adder and make a LOT more power. Besides, a supercharged stocker is not as cool as a big bad nasty stroker.

gofast908z very nice engine, do you have any numbers , dyno or track??
i thought about going with the 4.1" crank but im probly going to spray this engine so the 4.0" crank was a better choice for this combo.

it did 487/444 through the stall and on a 111 degree day, so you can imagine the power loss with that heat. I've made some changes and it will be back on the dyno for a complete retune, it should do 530+rwhp.
When its time for a rebuild, i'm probably gonna go with a 4.0" crank to take it down to a 418 and slap a Procharger on it with 8-10 psi.

may not be as big and bad but it get the job done. and he said he was only goign to be running about 500+ hp. i can get that from the blower and some(550+) cheaper and easier to install. then do some tunning, power chips, headers, exhaust, lighten the load a little. and still quicker than it takes to build a motor.

Did you consider the LSX for a build instead? I believe GMPP is going to have a crate LSX 454 with 660 hp. I know on their site its listed at 620, but I swear I've read 640 and 660 from other GM sources. Anyway, I bet if you wanted to build a killer street engine for drag racing, $18k build-up in a LSX would make an insane engine. I think a power-adder gives something like a 45% boost in power. That would mean a 900+ hp street capable motor. Does that sound about right?
