Oil pressure fine then gone

I have a 2010 Camaro SS stick shift with 79k miles. Sometimes I start it and zero oil pressure. The valves start ticking and I can tell it is no pressure not a sending unit. Today I start it and full oil pressure at an idle 40lbs and revving it hits 70lbs. Ticking gone and running like a champ. Just now went out to take it out for a spin and zero oil pressure and ticking again. So, I shut it off as I scratch my head. I have a bad bad feeling about this but hope someone will say all it is maybe the pickup tube or something other than a shot engine. I just got the car two days ago as is but claiming it was a good running car. I have never owned this big engine this new, I know very little about them.

Unfortunately, not a lot of active members here any more, and those that are active are mostly 4th Gen owners. You may get lucky and someone here can help. But an alternative would be to also try a site like ls1tech.com .

I’m embarrassed that I have to tell you this.

And to add to the confusion I gave you the wrong link. Corrected it above.

This is a total guess, but I think you might have a stripped oil pump drive gear.

if that’s it, I’m sorry, because getting to the oil pump is a fair bit of work! You have to remove the entire front accessory drive and then the timing cover. Not sure what else you might need to remove to make that possible — sometimes the radiator or the fans are in the way.
