180 thermostat does it affect performance?

Question 180 thermostat does it affect performance?

I was recently told that it could affect perfomance on my 84z,??? what are the pro's & con's,is it worth installing.THANKS

It makes a differance. I think for every 10 or 20 degrees cooler your engine is you get like 1hp or so. Running at a cooler temature will alow you to run more timing also. Which will also get you more hp.

There really aren't any downsides to running cooler, granted that everything else is right.

fwiw most 180 degree thermostats open at 195 degrees. and most 195 degree thermostats open at 212.so it would make you engine run cooler
