haha my bad i have the engine tech forum set as my homepage and sometimes i forget there are other forums...... when my bro switched from 2.41's to 3.42's in his 77 firebird he went from runnin a 15 to a 14 flat. i was just wondering if the gains might be the same.

Have you found 3.73's yet? I just happen to have a set of GM 3.73's for sale. The GM's make absolutely no noise and are very hard to find.... Less than 20,000 miles.... I really like them but the reason I need to sell is because I went to 3.23's. Run out of top gear at around 115 mph with 3.73's (at the track of course!).

Actually there's a ton of junkyards by where i live filled with thirdgens, so I'm gonna try my hand at finding a complete 3.73 posi rear before i spend the $$$$ to install some. Doesn't anyone have any times from before and after this same swap? There has to be SOMEONE.

I did the 3.08 to 3.73 gear swap but did a lot of other stuff at the same time so I can't get you any solid numbers. I think you'll see a good gain only if you have enough traction. 3.42 would be a better choice I think. 3.73 seems to be too steep from the last 2 setups I had. I just went to a 28" tall rear tire and it's helped a lot to get me back down into the powerband if that makes any sense..haha
