305 tpi on a 350
#6
I don't think any 86 would have a knock sensor. Mine don't anyway.and also i should have said this in the first post the 350 won't be stock .I heard about having a chip made for it with your cam specs and so on .That was what i was asking .sorry it must be the beer.

I would get a dremel and port that box, there are some flat pieces in there around the tubes, I would get rid of those, port out that front and get a 58mm tb.. Unless you have cash then I would get that enlarged tube and box from TPIS

Just a suggestion from someone who has done this swap (a 350 crate using the 305 TPI system). Before you start making radical changes to anything get the motor running with no unknown problems. For example: I used a stock GM 350 chip for the start up. It can be changed later. Or you can try deleteing or adding parts and you may end up with swap that runs like crap. Just my opiniion.

I dont see how you can say you dont need a knock sensor. All V8 thirdgens from '85 up to '92 used a knock sensor. The 82-84 LG4's did not have one. Without one, you'll get a SES light for code 43.

That code will make your PCM retard the timing as much as it possibly can too.

knock sensor
I didn't say i don't need one .I'm asking . and were is the knock sensor on a 86 ? Its not in the same location as my 94 lt1. And if i remove the smog pump will it give a code and how do i get it to clear? thanks for all your input.

The knock sensor is on the passenger side bottom of the block. You can see it from underneath. Above it in the passenger head is the fan temp switch.
You can remove the smog pump and the computer doesnt care, but its a federal law you're breaking if you do.

No code for the smog pump. I see more thirdgens without the smog pump than I see with it.
