305 TPI put on a 350

Re: 305 TPI put on a 350
The 85 had a regular HYDRAULIC cam, the L98s all had Hydraulic ROLLER cams, and yes the grinds were vastly different.
The 85 though did have a more aggressive cam in it than the 86 Cars (which also had non- roller cams), But it was a performance cam by no meands, under 210 .050 duration and less than 440 lift on the exhaust (420 on the intake). The cam was nothing to be proud of. Also the 85s electronics were much slower than the 86 ups.

Where did I say it was the same cam? Obviously anything before 87 wasn't a roller cam.
And aside from the type of cam it was, the grind was almost identical.
85: 305 AT 14088843 .403 .415 202 206 114.5 (115/-114)
87: 305 5spd / 350 AT
(LB9/ L98) 14093643* .404 .415 202 207 114.5 (115/-114)
Wow, so those are vastly different.
No one said anything about the slow computer that was only used the one year, either.

You said the cams were identical to the early L-98s the L-98 as you know showed up in the 85 vette.
Your cam specs are for the 305 cams, yes your specs are correct, but you miss the L98 specs which you said they were identical to. The l98 had more lift and more lobe seperation which made them behave differently.

EDIT: "Early" as in Early f-bod. Where do vettes come into this equation? I don't know crap about vette cams. Why are all you guys arguing about 305s? What's the deal?

well lets see, since gm doesnt do anything performance without first putting it in the corvette, which by the way never cam with a 305. Then yes you can use the tpi setup on the 350, just make sure you adjust your injectors and ecm to match. Also, working in parts and doing the same swap as we speak, yes the knock sensor is different, they DO have different parts numbers.

Okie dokie, I really didn't mean to argue. I apologize for that. But actually I am in agreement in your early point about the reving.
I have had an 85 305 TPI as well (along with 5 other 305TPIS of various years), and the 85 was much peppier.I had an 87 and it was an absolute dog. LB9 non G92.

The only way you can differentiat them is by getting them from a GM partshouse, if you walk into a regular O'Reillies and such they will give you the same knock sensor all the way up to a 95 LT1 (which works by the way)

Re: 305 TPI put on a 350
Yes the TPI will work on a 350, Yes the 350 uses more air at 4500rpm than a 305. No it does not depend on the cam and heads. You cannot compare apples to oranges to prove a point. Stock for Stock and similar mods to similar mods the 350 will still use more air than a 305 at 4500 rpm. Why? Because of the 45 extra cubes . Guess what?! 61 cubes = 1 Litre of volume. Nearly 1 Litre out of 5.7L is quite a vast margin but thats ok, you can still beleive that a 305 and 350 use the same amount of air at certain RPM's.
Also, the 85's (some of them) got a peanut cam. The cam was not the same as the L98 cam. Yes you did say they were the same.
The early L98 cam was a 207*/214* .413/.430 117*LSA cam IIRC.
For the guy with the not so stock motor, get 22# injectors. 24#'ers if you're modded with cam and torque convertor and headers.
