350 to 383 streetability

I have an 84 Camaro with a 350 c.i.d. small block. It passes CA smog (it looks like standard 5.0 to the untrained eye). Would my car still pass the **** probe test if I did the Lunati 383 kit. Can I still keep my Q-Jet on there or would I have to upgrade that too but then it wouldnt pass visual. (I HATE CALIFORNIA!) And what kind of cam would be recommended. I was thinkin Lunati or Crane but I still want to pass CA smog.

Thanx,
Dave

I say save your money, search for some AFR's in the 190 range with a mini ram...score a solid roller and spray it into the 10's.

Skip the stroker stuff.

IMHO of course...I've seen the light.

The only issues I see with that are:

In order to swap in a Miniram you have to go to fuel injection....PITA since the car is currently carbed.

A Miniram won't pass a visual inspection.

You can run the Q-jet on a 383 (it's rated at like 750cfm so it'll flow plenty to feed the cubes) but it's gonna take pretty careful tuning to pass the sniffer. And externally, a 383 looks identical to a 305. Imagine that!!

God, I am such an idiot. I am so tired (worked 13 hours today) that I only read half the post! LOL

Yeah, skip the miniram/FI... just throw a big fat carb up there (illiterate FI guy speak) and go to town. lol

I sincerely doubt a stock quadrajet will flow 750 cfm. If you do the 383, I would buy a real carb (such as a 650 or 750 speed demon) to run on the street and then swap the q-jet back on when you smog the car.
