Re: 383 '91 Z.....advice (loong) HSR system

Well I decided to just order the rotating assembly and go from there...

Salee Chevrolet I found has a nice deal.

Scat 4340 Forged 3.75 crank, SRP forged pistons, Scat forged 5.7 I or H beam rods for $1270 to $1470 depending on the rods. Im going to call and ask about the price with Scat 6" ones later today. I have a meeting tying me up all day so that will probably be later around 4PM. Plus Im in the middle of installing tile(myself) in my house lol, so crap is everywhere... I cant even sit down on my couch because theres tile drying with its clearcoat in my living room....)

Yay! Im just tired of bickering around with these shops so Im just going to get the shortblock built and do the rest myself. These shops just can do too much to try to get you to give them more money....

Now I need to find a good 350 block since mines a 305...I have one but its sitting 350+ miles away so I might take a vacation and pick it up while Im down there..

Ahhhh Im so glad to get this done!

Thanks guys, Im going to need your help in a few weeks or so to decide on the heads because Im just going to take your advice and buy the good heads from the start. Its going to take longer to get the car running but at least once it is it will be DONE!

Thanks soooo much!

I was going to say if you are looking for long term why not just go for a fully forged 355 with some nice headers with the L98 heads for now and then when the money comes in put some nice heads on there and then go forced induction. Unless of course you do not want forced induction.

I am kind of in the same boat that you are in. I have the components to build the 383 now but do now have the money for the heads and I know that I am going to be dissappointed until I have new heads. I am hoping that I will be able to have the motor assembled by March at the latest, but of course I know how money goes in my life and it will probably be sometime around July or something.

Is that with a one-piece or two-piece rear-main seal?

Yeah, definitely post the info here, I'm sure you're not the only one thinking along these lines...

go with a 350 or 383 (if your car is a 350 now just stick with that or if not then go with the 383) which every want and u can still go with votec head get he vortec tpi then go with a lingefelter super ram runners and upper that y u can still have some smog if u need too and go with a decent cam something like a single pattern and toss on a 100 shot for fun if your car is a 700r4 make sure it will be able to hold the power and get a decent converter that should be more then enough for low 12's then the rear end might come into play lol so going fast costs money how fast u wanna go lol
