383 Horsepower Estimates
Alright guys, the engine is totally figured out. After debating 355/383, I'm going 383. Might be a daily driver but I'll take the MPG hit and enjoy the torque
-2-bolt Block
-Scat 9000
-Scat 5.7" I-Beams
-TRW Hyperuetic Pistons (.030" Over)
-AFR 195's
-10:1 Compression
-Ported TPI Base/Plenum
-SLP Runners
-52MM Throttlebody
-XR276HR (224/230 @ .050, .535/.544 with 1.6 rockers)
-Proper Tune
-SLP Shorties
Any ideas of hp/tq? With the 6-speed and 3.73's, track times?
I'm ordering the rotating assembly ($539) in 2 weeks and porting the base/plenum in 1 week. The rest should come by next fall.

i do believe afr 195's and a tpi ported or not is kinda pointless? I doubt even if you did some awesome port work on the tpi that it could flow more then the afr 190's could support. Why not get a mini-ram, spend an extra 5 hundred on the rotating assembly and go forged, and then have 500 ponies knocking on your door?

Maybe 450 ish??The toque should be Awsome!...Better put some money in a good driveshaft/U-joints...
Low 12's/high 11's, if you get the gear/tire sizing worked out for your powerband...
Figure on 24 or 26# injectors??
Near "Zero decking" the block and running 6" rods will help it be more Octane freindly by controlling the "quench" and "piston speed" at "top" somehow, I forgot the details, it was kinda technical...
This is a torque motor, better suited for the TPI, in my opinion...

I guess I'm one of the few... but I agree with Doug. Those heads FAR exceed the limits of that intake. If it were me, I'd convert a carb intake. Even a Miniram can die early. It's not much better than a slightly ported stock LT1 intake.

I didn't put this in my first post:
I'll eventually step up to some kind of Ram. I'm undecided which one. It'll be a few years from now, figure get the right heads the first time (they're $1200)

so I`m going with the Vortecs on my 383 or maybe camel backs I can get rebuilt ones for $1000 I don`t know what the vortecs are yet?
I want the AFR`s!!!!!! but there wayyyyy!! to much

Rippin, nice sounding combo. I'm planning on building one exactly like that for my 84 Camaro, however I'm going with a carbed setup. AFR 195's and all.
I would like to know where you got the rotating assembly for that price at, I'll buy it immediately if I can get a deal like that.

I'm having trouble seeing a MR or even LT1 dying early, I mean with a 58mm/1,000cfm T/B...I just can't see it. Some people are as stuck on carbs as I am on my TPI...
Carbs require way too much tuning, trick parts, and many have to be adjusted even for different weather conditions to be consistent...when you get serious. I'll stick with EFI...For Life!...
I'd say a TPI, with Large Tube Runners(not siamesed) and a fully ported or aftermarket base, is a PERFECT MATCH for a 383...I don't see 195's taxing a healthy TPI to any extreme..

Why not siamese the runners? Should I do any work to the SLP runners?

okay im going to step up and give my opinion again. First of all i dont know anything about those internals what are they made of? If you toss a mini-ram on that motor youll need forged internals or youll blow it up.
As for what youre doing i understand as to a lack of funds. What you will truly have is a miss match. The ported tpi is a high velocity low flow intake, where the afr 195's on that motor are going to be very high flow heads. Due to this fact that there will not be a large volume of air coming through the intake and the heads will kill your velocity, so you end up with a low flow, medium velocity motor. It will still be a lot better then stock though because those heads are truly amazing. I'm going to bet high 12's just due to the tpi and the fact that i doubt youll have perfect traction/shifting unless youre some sort of car god that i was not made aware of.
I understand youre trying to put this motor together and due to a lack of funds it all cant be done at once so what youre doing still makes sense, but dont expect miracles out of that tpi. With a mini-ram 500+ hp and low 11's is definitly achievable. I totally forget stock cam specs but i do believe that cam is a fair bit larger....should be well suited for those heads and with a proper intake youll be off to the races as long as you dont blow up your motor. I also wouldnt rule out getting a custom grind cam when you upgrade intakes to get the most out of that motor, again youre gonna have to be careful depending on what those internals are?
