4th gen rearend into 3rd-gn: Q on ride quality
if you convered your 4th gen rear to 3rdgen what type of ride quality(ie performance, suspension, etc.) do U notice?
also what rims did U use(how wide can U go and which rims to use)?
I know(from reading this site) that the rear is 2" long on either side, but how did U go about the front. I'm not an "adaptor" kinda
guy, could U change the front spindles to allow for the 2" offset?
Thanks...

I have a 4th Gen rear in mine.
The "performance" that you'll notice is all dependent on what rear gear you have. Also depending on the year rear that you get, you may get a Torsen rear differential which is superior to a normal limited slip dif.
Suspension...well that all depends on what you either have now, or what you decide to put in. The rear would be just the rear...no real suspension items included. So that's up to you. Otherwise they're identical to what you would be taking out.
I'm using 17x.9.5" ZR1s up front and 17x11" ZR1s in the rear. The 11"s will fit on a 4th Gen rear without any problem. Up front you need 2" spacers in order to run a 4th Gen offset wheel. But other than using spacers, I don't know how else you'd do it.
Why aren't you "that" kind of guy?

I have a 4th gen rear also and there is no drivibility advance at all over the 3rd gen rear. they are both the same with the only change being the total length.
LT1Powered85Z, how do you like your spacers on the front? I have the same wheels with the 2" spacers and the car always feels like its all over the road. It wasnt like this before the wheel swap. Also, how do you like the 11" wheel in the rear. I was thinking of changing to an 11" wheel also but wasnt sure of tire rub

Bottled: I could be wrong in saying this, but I have a feeling that the reason it feels like it's "all over the road" is probably due to the fact that you now have wider tires than you did before.
Maybe I shouldn't assume, but I bet you had 245s on before and now you have 275s, correct? The added width really makes a difference in how the car goes down the road. With wider tires it searches all over and follows ruts, etc. The spacers have nothing to do with that. All they do is move the mounting surface out to meet up with the wheel.
The 11's are cool. There aren't any problems, short of the fender lip coming close to rubbing. That is easily taken care of by rolling the fender lip, which I will have done once it's painted within the next month or so.

eric what is a good price to expect to pay for something like that....i've been looking into a rear and since i'm changing rims it would save me 150+ on adapters to get a rear like that so it might make sense!

I paid like $350 for a 3.42 rear out of a '97 Z with like 35k miles on it. Since it's out of a '97 I got the Torsen dif.
Shipping truck freight was like $59 or somehting like that...
Pretty good price, IMO. It also came with DeCarbon shocks attached to it and a stock rear sway bar.

LT1Powered85Z, thats exactly what I been thinking the whole time. The thing thatmakes me think its something else is that i use to own a 97trans am ws6 with 285s on it and it didnt drive like mt91 does. I know they are are 2 totally different cars though. Maybe its the roads, my tires and a need for a front end aligment all at once

LT1Powered85Z, The reason why I don't like spacers or adatpors is that I'm not crazy about not having a direct bolt-on. Like in the case of the adaptors there is another set of bolt seperating me from the road. Not sure if this is a good thing or not(and I wouldn't wanna find out the hard way). and with spacers I feel that there is extract tention on the bolt/screws holding the front wheels inplace. That was why I was wondering if there was or if anyone had ever come across a spindle/control arm that would extent the rim 2" longer...
I love the way the Z06 or ZR1 rims fit the 3rdgen's. pretty nice.
did you put the zr1 rims on your camaro yet? is it posted at your site?

Hey Eric,
What is the offset on the 11" wheels? I tried to put the GS 11" wheels on mine and it hit the bumpstop and since it was raining, I didn't have a chance to remove it to see if the wheel would go on.

The ZR1s are on my car...but I don't have any pictures with them on it...yet. It's in storage right now. I will though, come spring time.
The backspacing on a 11" wheel to make it work is 50mm. If I remember correctly.
