Angry 86 Berlinetta v-6 stick to 305 auto turbo350 ...not shifting right.....

My 86 Berlinetta v-6 was a steal @ $500, and I gutted her, put in a 305 h.o.,holley mech. 7lb fuel pump, carter 500 cfm carb, headers, accel super coil, 440 lift/260 dur cam, blah blah blah. Custom cut driveshaft to fit turbo 350 tranny, and she goes like hell until 70 km/hr, but then no more shifting. I checked the vacuum, every possible thing, but nothing. I can't get a straight answer as to what gears came in a manual trans 86 berlinetta v-6 (2.8 liter)... does anyone know if it's the gear ratio, or is this just some kind of satanic curse? I'm getting pretty annoyed, and would REALLY like to know what to fix. The tranny is good, I have all forward and reverse gears, but the shift timing is just WRONG, so I can only assume it's gears, but want to be sure before I rip everything out again. Thanx for any help u can give.

Welcome to the board barbiek9.

This would be a little better suited for out 3rd Gen Tech section. I will move it there for you. If after a while (ie- couple days) you dont get many replies you can come back and try here.

Thanks,
Ken.

is it shifting 3 times? if it isnt, there is probably a valve body problem. The rear gears will have no effect on the transmission shifting. if do have all 3 foward gears, with the little math, you can figure out what gears you have if you know what mph you are at, at what rpm, and need the tire height. Hope this helps. Jason

Jason
mystery gears uncovered...3:42's. The problem remains that I am under 50 miles/hr and sitting at 3000+ rpm...that sucks, can't use the highway without almost redlining the car and going through insane amounts of gas.
If I put 3:08's in, how bad will it lag off the line? I know I will lose some take off, but how pathetic will it be? Thanks J for your help
