Are 87 IROC gauges mech.????

I'm going to replace my gauges in my '87 IROC with the Z series gauges. I'm getting the Tach., Speedo., volt., fuel., oil press. and temp gauge.
I know the tach. and volt gauges are electric (correct me if I'm wrong). So is the Speedo., fuel., oil press., and temp. elec. or mech.? I want to order the same as I have for ease of installation. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to do this easily? I'm also ordering a Covans classic dash to mount the gauges in the original location. http://www.covansclassic.com/parts/d...3156.33.180.96

Their electric.

Is there a thick "wire" going from the temp guage sticking right into the motor? NO. Theres a sending unit stuck in the driver side head and then it goes to the guage.

The only thing mechanical is the speedo.

Wrong. The tach is electrical. The speedo was mechanical on Camaros until the new dash showed up in 1990. Perhaps you confused the two.

All Electric except Speedo, but Autometer sells an adapter to convert their Electric Speedo to work with the stock mechanical setup.

I've been reading about their speedometer and it sounds so cool. You can recalibrate the speedo by driving a known 2 mile distance, by letting the speedo know the start and stop points.

Let us know how this install goes as I am considering doing the same thing. I will need to replace my fuel guage sending unit at the same time.
