90 RS ground effects - how do they come off ?
Well I'm trying to get the ground effects off the side of my 90 RS so I can do some repairs. Getting the RS emblem off and the screws behind there, the ones down the door sill and the one under the body by the rear wheel. The rear part by the rear wheel appears to be still held by some sort of a clip or something.... Any one point me to the trick ?
Thanks!!
Gerry-

There are 2 round plastic clips mounted permanently to the body that snap into 2 receivers on the ground effect piece itself. Just push up and to the rear on the pidece and it'll pop loose. Once you get it apart it'll be obvious how it goes back together. Make sure you have ALL the screws in the door sill AND under the door sill on the outside of the car removed.

Damon,
Thanks! I looked in there last night and saw the clip but thought it was attached to the ground effect, not the body. I tried a little rubber mallet action backward and forward, but no luck. Guess the trick is to pull up and backward...
I'll give it another whirl tonight and let you know how it goes.
Thanks!!

Well Damon, it doesn't quite work that way on my 90 RS. Or maybe you are talking about a different molding ?
On the rocker panel, bottom ground effects moulding there is a STUD at the rear that goes through the body with a nut on the inside, accessed by removing the passenger kick panel.
One broken moulding later, I now know what the back of the moulding looks like.
A $75 mistake, plus shipping.
Not a happy camper here.

Gerry,
I am very sorry to hear you broke the moulding. I thought I was giving good advice. I jsut did my brother's 87 a week before I posted- I was changing the front fender and some other stuff after a minor accident. I have pictures of the car in disassembly if you would like to see them. I am not in the habit of giving out advice that screws up board memeber's cars.
Again, I am truly sorry you had problems based on what I told you. I guess there are further differences year-to-year between the cars even though I thought the mouldings from 85-90 were pretty much the same.
