about to buy 88 V6 Camaro
Ok, the car is being sold by a local dealer for $2500 with 81,225 miles on it. It is red with grey interior, new tires and runs and looks great. This will be my first car. Can any of you give me pointers on what to look for in buying this Camaro. I am not a mechanic but know enough to fix minor problems. Oh and everything is stock on it except for the cd player

look for rust verywhere
more specificaly, on the floor pans, if its a t-top car check if they leak
its a v6 so no wonder bar, so pop the hood and on your right side take a look at the frame rail by the steering box, make sure its not stress cracked
for 2500 i would want a v8, z28 so bargain down
if there is a hatch pull down motor make sure it works (just pop the hatch, pick it up and put itdown, make sure it closes fully)
check if the fiberglass runners, (or ground effects) are cracked

Looking under the car is always good. Checking to see if it ever was in an accident, look for damage to the floorpans. Sagging doors is a problem with most of these cars so check both. Look at the paint in the engine bay and door jambs in relation to the exterior paint. Check engine and trans fluid. Trans fluid should NOT smell burnt. Goodluck! Sounds clean.
First modification will be a K&N filter. haha

make sure the car hasnt been recently repainted because if they paint right before sale theyre either trying to cover up rust or the car is stolen.
Also make sure the vin tag is up in the window where its supposed to be. Or its stolen.
LoL i saw both of those on one car.
Other then that bargain them down to no more then 2000, i wouldnt pay over 1500. 2500 is too much for a 6 cyl
