all sorts of problems

well i have a 91 z28, the car had been having some starter problems and finally it just quit working all together, so i go and replace it, but when i go to start it up, nothing happends, doesnt attempt to turn over or anything. A relay that is behind the driver side kick panel starts buzzing and thats about all that happens. Any ideas? could it be the fusable link in between the battery and the starter? Also, i got a hurst pro matic 2 shifter (equivilent to the B&M quicksilver) what wired do i need to hook the neutral saftey switch up to on it? and where does the other cable attatch to on the shifter, do i even need it? any help at all would be appreciated!

Brandon

Re: all sorts of problems

that buzzing is probably some relay under there, pull the panel off and turn the key and listen to see which one it is, and replace it, i had one go out that killed the blinkers, it's amazing how much that bugs you, even when there are people who never even use em ; )

neutral safety switch and all that is necessary for drag racing, but doesnt matter on street really

Well, since you said it was buzzing. Pull out the starter relay behind the driver side kick panel and test it out to see if it's functioning correctly. Or hell, just pick up a new one.

Re: all sorts of problems

sounds like you have a vats malfunction. i have a 90 rs that did the same thing. The contacts in the lock cylinder are bad and not letting you vats module read the pellet in your key. easiest way to test it is to measure the resistance of the pellet then go to radio hut and buy some resistors that match it and plug em into the connector under your dash that runs up the steering column. usually a black connector with 2 thin guage wires wrapped in an orange sleeve. if you need more detailed instructions email me.

Re: all sorts of problems

i already did the resistor mod to do away with the vats, but the relay that is behind the drivers kick panel is buzzing, so i guess ill just replace the relay, could the resistor go bad too? i might just replace that as well, is there a specific relay you have to get to do this or will just any relay work?

Re: all sorts of problems

the resistors can go bad, but if they did it would cause your car to not start. I read somewhere that vats sometimes goes into a mode where it will let your car start without the resistors....some sort of lockout mode. maybe that could have something to do with it?
