attempting to start winter beater

i have an 86 lincoln towncar i parked a few weeks ago in plan to drive it in the snow when my camaro is cozy in the garage.
the battery was starting to die when i tried to start it a few weeks ago as it just turned over then the lights dimmed and click click click.
so i figured i could just boost it off the camaro no big deal.
i bought those 'smart booster cables' that are interchangeable and have lights to let you know of the connection. the light came on for the camaro when i hooked it to + - but wouldnt come on fot he lincoln at + and other to the frame.. i tired to start lincoln and nothing. so i took off the + batt terminal and some grounds in that are and cleaned them up, tried again same deal. i have a spare alt in the trunk for the lincoln. tomorrow i will try a new battery. i still have the recipt for the battery in the lincoln.

anything else i should check? i was driving the car around the lot a bit before the battery died...

if u drove it around and the battery was dead afterwards than somethings wrong w/ the alt. put a new 1 on it and try jumping it again or a new battery like u said. should start then.
