Ive seen a 427 L88 Rat in a 3rd gen but the air cleaner pops up through the hood. I forgot who had it but that thing was SICK. U can defently do it just get new engine mounts/bell housing and your good to go. I might have left out something but this is also a bump for someone who has done it. What engine u gunna use. And for tranny ehhehe:

This Hughes TH400 trans (auto) is really nice:
HERE

Hughes TH700R4 trans (auto) this is wayyyyy better but more
HERE

Im looking into the TH700R4 when i get the money to drop the 350HO into my 3rd gen. Thats as much as i know if it helps later

It's a relativly easy swap. The most difficult part is the exhaust. The cheapest way is with factory cast iron manifolds. Hooker makes the cheapest swap headers but it takes a bit to make them fit. There are better swap headers available but they're also very expensive.

My BBC third gen is a race car so I don't have any clearance problems. Anything that got in the way was just removed.

I used to use a TH350 tranny but changed to a TH400 with a transbrake because it's a better and stronger tranny plus cheaper to build.

The motor mounts are in the same position for SBC and BBC. The distance between the motor mounts and the bellhousing is the same on both engines. Since the BBC is longer, the extra length goes forward.

A stock 10 bolt won't last long. I beefed up mine with aftermarket 28 spline axles, solid crush sleeve, welded axle tubes and solid rear cover with bearing cap supports. I run low 11's with it for a season with no problems. I only switched to a 9" when I installed a transbrake. I didn't think the tiny 7.5" ring gear could take more than one hit from the transbrake.

I saw someone here in Phoenix Arizona with a Caddy 500 big block, he said he had to move the oil filter with some hoses, and a few other things, but it's possible.
