Since you have 2.73 gears, I'd recommend a Crane PowerMax260 or 266 cam. If you plan to do your gears most people find that 3.42 gears are the nicest for performance AND highway mileage. In fact, most Corvettes come with gears in this range for that reason.

PowerMax260? Also, if I were to swap a rear what would you recommend? I've heard 3.73's weren't bad? I might take you up on the 3.42 gears though...thanks for the reply I appreciate it

3.73's in an Auto or 5 speed are awesome. 4.10's in a 6 speed kick *** too.

The PowerMax 260 has lift of .427 and .454 and duration in the 21x region--perfect for a 305, even one with 2.73s. It is a smooth idling cam with good low end torque and a very nice boost in upper rpm hp. When you have a set of decent heads and good exhaust system the cam should be good for at least 40 hp

3.73s are great if you don't plan on any highway driving. 2500 rpm at 65 mph isn't very pleasant after a short while They are about the practical limit for 3rd gens with 700r4 trannies. If you have a six speed manual with .50 overdrive then they are perfect. Otherwise 3.42s are the sweet spot.
