Which to buy
hey all, new to this forum because I have yet to own a Camaro =(. while browsing through the classified I came upon to interesting cars, the first one with the description reading "1990 CHEVROLET IROC Z, black, loaded, automatic transmition, 5.7 LT1 engine, stage three jet kit, borla exhaust system, shift kit, K&N filter, 89,000 miles, $3000, reconstructed title, runs good, good condition."
and shortly after reading that, i found another car reading "1989 CHEVROLET Camaro, RS, V6, air, tinted windows, many new parts, $2800 obo" NOTE - this car looks better in my opinion
now I realize the first car has a better engine, but isnt that a lot of miles, 89,000. the 2nd looks better, but is only a V-6. i havent talked to either of the owners yet. any questions I should ask, and recommendations?

89,000 isnt so bad. The car is 13 years old. Divide the age by the milage and it comes out to like 6846 miles a year. Hopefully it was well maintained. the reconstructed title has me worried though. Have a mechanic look it over. Spending $50 now to have somebody look it over could save you $$$ in the future. If it was up to me and the IROC checked out ok, I would go for that. Swapping a V8 into a V6 car is a lot of work.

hmm ok Ill try to carfax it, just need to get the VIN... should I keep looking, I mean is this a good deal or average? this might the best thing that comes around my way for a long time. hows the LT1 5.7 Liter, it must be relatively fast, right? I really want a powerful engine, but dunno if I be bothered with lots of repairs because I'm only 16 and have a limited knowledge, though I hope to learn a lot about cars.

unfortunately I dont know if the seller will be willing to allow me to take it out to be checked out by a mechanic...thatll be hard if not impossible to do until after I buy the car, which is too late anyways, I'm guessing

usually you can get them to come to look at the car. I know here are there are quite a few services that offer this. It costs anywhere from $50 to $100 to have somebody come out and inspect the car. they go over it top to bottom and tell you everything they find. Then you decide if its a good deal or not. This can save you $$$$. Look in your local Yellow Pages and see if you can find anybody that offers that service. Better yet, have your parents do it. Tell them your serious about getting a quality car, and want it inspected first, ask them if they can find a reputable mechanic to come look at the IROC for you.
