Cam Swap??

Re: Cam Swap??
With stock heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, you'll see amost no gain, regardless of cam size. With a set of headers, you may see another 15hp or so, depending upon the grind. And in my opinion, it's not worth the cost and labor.
Stay away from a cam swap until you address at least the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Re: Cam Swap??
Address the exhaust first. Quality headers (1 5/8" primary minimum - stay away from Edelbrock and Flowtech), y-pipe, and catback. If you want more power then modify the intake. The intake can go a few different ways. Install some aftermarket runners and port the plenum, or you can go with something like Holley's StealthRam, or Accel's SuperRam if you're rich. You'll probably want a chip burned for the ECM after modifying the intake. Once the intake and exhaust have been upgraded, a larger cam will yield good results.
With stock cylinder heads and cam, the L98 in your car with the mods mentioned above should increase the power from the factory rated 245 to nearly 300

Re: Cam Swap??
I've heard that Hooker's are the best way to go as far as headers are concerned. How would I go about having a chip burned?
And I've been thinking of either stroking it or just up and throwing a 383 in it. What would you suggest?

Re: Cam Swap??
depends on what stroker kit your talking about... a 383 is a stroker.
building one can be cheaper and less expensive than buying one...all depends if your good or not.
I have headman headers and love them, they flow great, sound great, and the price is right lol.

Re: Cam Swap??
I'll stay away from the 383 question for now.

Re: Cam Swap??
County doesn't require it due to us not living that far inside the Metro Atlanta area. State doesn't require emissions testing unless the population per capita is X amount or more. And we don't fall under that, not for a while.

Re: Cam Swap??
It's still illegal to mess with the emissions no matter what. ( Remove ) If the car is for off road use only, that's a different story.

Re: Cam Swap??
if you want to avoid tuning all together and be able to build any motor combo less power adders, go with the EZ efi by F.A.S.T. if you are running a TPI style system just buy the retro kit as everything plugs up except 8 wires that you will need to tap in which is no biggie. everything can be done totally in the eng bay without going futher.
this will allow you to run a 383 with no sweat, you decide to step down just start a new tune and the system does the rest.
as for headers, i concur, hooker 2055's are the way to go. no gasket at the collectors to deal with as they run a ball and socket system there. get the Y pipe as it will eliminate the stock Y pipe that has restrictions.

Re: Cam Swap??
If you go to the hooker web site you cannot use 2055's and their y-pipe on a 92 camaro. Your car should have dual cats and their y-pipes are for single cat only. The headers will work.
