Cool camshaft in a 5.0 TBI from a 4gen

Hi, recently I had a camshaft installed in my 89' 5.0 TBI engine.. the camshaft is from a LT1 engine (not sure of the year)
I haven't changed the valve springs, is this bad?
The engine idles in a rough manner, the revs keep on going between 900-600...
hmmmm i'm not too sure what to do now, maybe u guys have any ideas..

I think the problem is the TBI computer. I don't think they are as good as TPI computers and are more sensitive to modifications. Changing the valvesprings probably would have been a good idea too IMO.

with the small difference in the lift from a tbi cam to an lt1 i think the springs would be fine the problem you have is not from the cam recheck timing,be sure your map sensor is in good working condition, throttle body is clean and you have good plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump and filter

Yea you probably need some computer tuning. TBI is a bitch.

A new prom chip should do the trick .The LS1 camshaft was set up for for better flow heads.LB9 TPI 5.0 has the same cam as the L98 but the heads on the 5.0 are only 1.84 intake 1.50 exhust. Try to contact T.P.I.S they can burn custom proms.

Re: camshaft in a 5.0 TBI from a 4gen

what are the rest of your mods?
my friend did the LT1 cam swap on his 91 TBI Firebird along with a carb intake with TBI spacer, roller timing set, headers, 3" catback, 3.42 LT1 rear end, and his car ran very well.
the only thing I changed on his chip were the speed limiter and turned off the EGR flag. Car idled fine, and ran pretty quick for a 305TBI, 14.6 @ 93mph.

Re: camshaft in a 5.0 TBI from a 4gen

ok, the problem has been fixed. The wiring harness was faulty and the fuel injectors were flooding the engine. Everything ok now and i must tell you guys the car is ****ing fast!!!
here is the list of mods (tomorrow i'll get some pics)

2.8 MPFI swapped to a V8 5.0 TBI
auto swapped to a manual BW T5

LT1 camshaft
Flowtech shorty headers
MSD ignition coil
MSD 8mm wires
ACCEL ignition module
ACCEL rotor and cap
open air filter
complete gasket set (top & bottom)
160 degree thermostat
new fuel pump
new clutch
new radiator, very efficient
fuel pressure guage under the hood - it also gives more gas to the throttle body under full acceleration.
3.42 rear end
catalytic converter removed, in its place there is a free flowing muffler, the same in the rear.

Emission & EGR & Aircon delete
cruise control delete

soon I'll have it dynotested on the wheels

Re: camshaft in a 5.0 TBI from a 4gen

Well here are the pics of my ride after the engine swap V6-V8 , and auto -> manual 5spd.
Oh, i tried to get my car dynotested but they wouldn't let me cause' the tyres i have on the rear have a safety limit of 180km/h (~110mph) but the car would have gone much faster which could result in the tyres exploding.

regards
