I have an 84 Z' H.O. Vin.G L69
I dont know how many 305 H.O. owners know this but the H.O.s came stock with 373 gears. My Z has the 700R4 with a few light mods: Accel super coil, superchip, shift kit, stock carb is raised from the manifold which proved to be pretty good, this allows more room for the fuel and air to mix and it is further from your engine (less heat). But if you decide to do this watch your height cause the stock dual snorkle air filter will hit the hood. Alot to do with the lower power rating on the car was the addition of so many emmisions equipment. But I love my HO. Another thing that cant hurt is drag radials. Mine shifts hard in 2nd and easily loses grip sending my a$$ side ways. And Stangehunters right Sub frame connectors is a must unibodies are notorious for sags and cracks due to the amount of torsional stress the undergo. A strut tower brace probably wouldn't hurt either. Edelbrock and Hotchkis both make strut tower braces for carbed cars.
Take care.

Boz

I agree. In my opinion, one of the first things I would recommend to anyone thinking about majorly moding their ride would be the suspension, because your car is only worth anything if it can make that power stick to the ground. After that, mod the hell out of it. But you will be sorry if you just drop the motor in and think its smooth sailing. Also, the things I have mentioned such as SFC's and STB and so one will help lower those E.T.'s dramatically. You'd be surprised. My 305 could proly have ET's in the 14 with alot of suspension work and only 165 hp. Its a combination of things that make your car fast, not just one aspect such as power. Hope that helps!

start with a trip to your friendly neighborhood u-pull-it. aluminum driveshafts are fairly common. just walk around all the f-bodies and look under them, if the drive shaft is grey you found a winner, most yards only charge like $15 for a shaft.
another great salvage yard grab is always aluminum brake drums for those stuck with iron. i know most of the L69 cars got discs or aluminum drums from teh factory, but if you have steel or some garage mechanic has swapped iron for your stock aluminums just look for a grey brake drum with colling fins that look big and have no lip on teh back of them, they will also have round balance weights instead o fthe rectangular ones iron drums use. saves about 5-9lbs each.
now if you know anyone who welds it is time for a trip to home depot/lowes. they sell 4ft long pieces of strap steel, 1/4 thick and 2 inch wide, for about $6. cut it to length and weld it into teh bottom of the stock control arms and BLAMO!!!! instant boxed control arms. if you really feel adventurou8s you can order poly(energy suspension) or aluminum(competition engineering) bushings for them too fro about $40 and have them installed at a local garage for a few bucks.
then when you hit the track just drop one end link off the front sway bar to let it lean back a little harder and you shoudl have plenty to get itnot eh14's. one thing about stick cars is to learn how it wants to launch. so play aroudn with rpm and how you let off the clutch a bit.

Question

Is yours the anniversary edition, with Recaros, 4 wheel disc, 16" wheels etc? If so that is a sweet ride! The L69 can perform well with a few mods.
