Dana was only available over the counter as a performance replacement. Pretty rare. Look at your diff from the rear. If it has a sharp spike on each side of the casting and an oval cover, it's a 7.5 10 bolt. Dana 44 has the same distinct shape that the bigger Dana 60 used by Chrysler under the Hemi cars. Dana:

Re: DO i have a Dana rear in my car
the only "factory" dana44 rear cars were the 3rd gen firehawks.
i happened to get a leftover one. took me 5 years top break it. that is with it going through daily driving, drag racing on slicks, and autocross on road race tires
all i managed to do was finally bomb teh carrier too. teh gears still look brand new.

Re: DO i have a Dana rear in my car
Smooth rear cover is a standard GM 10 bolt.
Rubber plug in the rear cover is a BW 9 bolt (also has 9 bolts holding on rear cover)
Metal plug in rear cover is the rare Dana 44 with 8.5" ring gear. No production cars ever got them except the SLP Firehawk but they were available from the GMPPC years ago. For the price to buy one new now if you can even find one, it's cheaper to buy an aftermarket 9" or 12 bolt. Back then these diffs were not as available so the Dana 44 was the best choice for performance.

no, the TTA got the borg 9 bolt. the ones i seen got 3.27 gears. the borg was a step down from the dana but its rumord it was as strong as or stronger than the dana 44.
