With the LT1 24# injectors, yes definitely. Every car can benefit from a custom chip.

I have one from www.fasterproms.com and am very pleased with the results and the great tech support for diagnosing some other issues I had at the time. They get a chip as close as possible based on your mods and them have you make runs with monitoring equipment and them burn the chip till they get it on the money. They are around $500 for the first chip but after that, if you do more serious mods and need a new chip, it is around $150

I have only spent around $400 and I can burn chips indefinitely. There are no more costs and I can Dyno tune and road tune my car myself.
$500+$150 for each subsequent burn=Too much money.
By The way, your cam is way too small. Those lift numbers are lower than a factory L98 cam ever was. You would benefit from a cam with lift closer to .480 or so.

For all you third gen folks, I will burn you a chip for $125, custom to your vehicle. Check out my website http://www.lt1tuning.com
I am just now getting this site setup and I don't have the order form posted yet or pricing. I should be able to do everything within a couple weeks. Check out my car it's the 91Z on the picture page. I custom burned my own chip. The car runs perfect with my mods and it's speed density, not mass air. My car was posted in GMHTP a couple of years ago, thats where the picture is taken from. I will be happy to give a discount for the first chip you order from me. Send me an email if you have any questions. Thanks.

I just visited your site. I think you should change the color scheme, kinda hard to read, blue on gray on the main page and black on dark blue on the movies page.
I need to add a chip burning page to my site, as I do programming as well.

I threw the site together pretty quick. I agree the movie page is hard to read but the main page is not difficult. I haven't had much time to play with it. I am also in the process of building the Mail server. Thanks for the input.

ummm $500 for a custom chip is too high.
and for your mods $300 is too high.
for $500 you can buy your own equipment to
burn chips, buy software to do it and curve
it to your expecations.
if ya wanna call me i can help you out in
your choice

Had a friend who got hold of a DFI unit which is similar to what we are talking about. Custom tune on the fly. Worked good, real good. 6 months later, I helped him R & R his motor. Burnt valves and pistons. I asked him how he tuned the unit. He said he did it till it felt really good.
Equipment is necessary. However, experience is invaluable. How do you know when too far is too far? Either that or you might not be getting everything out of the motor you could. I went with someone reputable and recommended by Lingenfelter Perf Engr.

Did your friend pay attention to the scantool to see how the car was reacting to the programming? sounds like he had too much timing or his fuel tables were off. BTW all these guys are not talking bout DFI they are talking about burning chips for the GM ECM.

Yes he did pay attention to the timing and fuel curves. Unfortunately he did not know what to look out for.
I had an unrelated issue but my car would not run right.I sent my diacom to www.fasterproms.com and they said that the injector pulses were way too much for what was happening and we found out that it was a shorted injector bank. The car would be puking fuel out but yet we could see that it was running lean according to the diacom. Turns out that the injector pulses were supposed to be around 1.5 ms at idle and they were around 3.5 ms instead. The shorted out bank was on the driver side where the O2 sensor was and the other side was compensating. Without their help, I would not have know that 3.5 ms was too high for idle. Since I had an AFPR and larger injectors and no experience, I could not tell how long was too long.
DIF is the same thing a burning your own chip. In either case, you are altering the way events are handled. With the DFI, you are doing it on the fly whereas with the chip burning, you are stopping and taking it out and doing it then reinserting the chip. Same principle in either case.

It allows you to program everything you want to in the car. Don't know about DIF tho. DFI stands for Digital Fuel Injection, I believe.
