EdelbrockTPI or LT1 intake for 383...

Like the topic states, I can purchase either one for the same price, my engine should be back together soon so i have to decide on an intake. See sig for mods...

Holley 750 Double Pumper with an Air-Gap intake

If you insist on it I would say go with the Edelbrock it seems like the aftermarket intake would be better if you can get it for the same price. But on the other hand I was looking at a post the other day where a guy takes LT1 intakes and makes em pretty hot.

A few things come into consideration here....

Is the 383 a long rod or short rod? If you built it for low end torque you should use the Edelbrock, but if you want it to pull all the way to 6500 rpm then get the converted LT1 intake.

The only bad thing I heard about LT1 intakes is that they leak coolant and have cooling problems, but I think John Millican has addressed those issues and corrected them.

Whatever you do, if you already have EFI keep it EFI. You don't see us driving around in cars with stone wheels do you?

its just my $.02... but if you plan on using it as just a bolt on and thats is, and you don't wanna have to fab it at all... then got with the edelbrock...
however if you are good at fabbing and working out kinks and don't mind doing so then do the LT1 swap... a buddy of mine did that swap on his 89 GTA w/ 383 and it took him a couple weeks to get all the stuff worked out .... and still hasn't gotten ALL the stuff worked out... there is a lot of little things that needed to be modified to make it work... its a great concept and i think its awesome that john did the stuff... and i would do the swap personally if i was still workin on my 383 project...

I am taking thge LT1 intake off of my 3rd gen. If you are installing it on a 2nd vehicle (racing, etc) then the LT1 intake is fine. IMO, the risk of the coolant leaks is too great for a car I must depend on (of course, complaints about this issue only became apparent to me once I already had it installed). Plus now that it's in the car, the hoses running to the remote thermostat housing, etc. look kinda cheesy.

I know a few people running the LT1 intake and they had a few problems. They are now working fine. The best way to go with the induction system is to use a SuperRam or MiniRam. I had ported everything on my TPI and used SLP runners and the engine was still starving for air. I switched to the SuperRam and the car ran much better. The SuperRam on my engine pulls to 6000 RPM's. The ported TPI would only pull to about 5200 RPM's.

Greetings, I have the LT-1 intake on mine with no leaks ...just install it correctly and check to make sure your double d-shafts are snapped into place and john hatch is latched.
