Engine break in
how do you break in a rebuilt engine, I have an idea but I want to know the proper way. I rebuilt my 305 carb to pan almost everthing is new and I`m hopin to start her up tommorow or mon.

Make sure the timing is set before firing up the engine so you don't have to play around trying to set the timing once the engine fires up.
Keep the engine above 2000 rpm for 20-30 minutes. Change the oil and filter and go for a drive. All your really doing during a break in is breaking in the cam. The rings should be considered broken in during the first 5 minutes of running.
You can check the condition of the break in oil for anything unusual but don't be alarmed at any metallic dust since break in will create some metal.
At 500 miles, change the oil and filter again and recheck the condition of the oil. If there's any problems internally, it will show up then.
