engine swap

idk what forum to post this in, i think this is the right one... i have a 92 z28 with the 5.7L tpi, i and the automatic trany, i wanna get rid of both of them and drop in a LS1 engine, and a 6 speed tranny. does anyone know how to do that, or how hard it would be to do? and how much would it cost? i want an engine with low miles, i got money, so that dont matter. i just want my car to look nice, and run fast.

Re: engine swap

I have no idea how to do this. A few members have done this as I see it in their signatures. However I can tell you the best way to get these items are to get them from a totalled LS1 vehicle. That way you get the computer and all the right hardware. Somone will get you the info here to make your project happen. Good luck.

Re: engine swap

if u can get the engine the tranmission (t56), and wiring harness all together, preferably from the same car then its not much harder after that

you are going to need motor mount adapters, or better yet a tubular k-member for the 3rd gen f-body and ls1 mounts
you are also going to need the t56 crossmember to bolt the t56 in

you will need to cut a hole in your floor for your shifter and a hole in your firewall for the clutch master cylinder
which reminds me, u also need an ls1 clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder (which i think is built into the throwout bearing, i dont know)

you can find plenty more information on this swap at www.thirdgen.org

Re: engine swap

you looking at at least 5 grand for the swap. you need to swap gas tanks or modify your fuel system. you need custom mounts tranny and motor. you need custom pcm configuring and wiring. check out thirdgen.org
